We missed World Theater Day! But just want to let you know we have exciting things happening and we want YOU to be a part of it.
Why theater?
Because it refuses
to let you stay
only yourself.
Because it gently
and sometimes not so gently
asks you to step outside
the small, familiar shape
of your own story
and try on someone else’s breath.
To speak
with a voice
that isn’t yours
to feel
with a heart
you didn’t grow
to stand in the middle
of a life
you might never understand
and say
I will try anyway.
A
nd if that
doesn’t build empathy
what does?
Theater is not pretend.
It is practice.
Practice in listening
before answering
practice in holding
someone else’s truth
without needing to correct it
practice in saying,
“I don’t know this life
but I will not turn away from it.”
And it’s not just the ones
in the light.
Backstage
hands full of tape and timing
quiet problem-solvers
holding entire worlds together
without ever asking
to be seen
learning how to move
as one body
how to fix the unexpected
without breaking the moment
how to trust
that someone else
will catch what you drop.
That is empathy too.
That is patience.
That is love
in action
without applause.
So why theater?
Because the world
is starving
for people
who know how to see
beyond themselves.
Because empathy
is not something
we can demand
it is something
we have to practice
until it becomes
instinct.
And theater...
messy
beautiful
human theater....
is one of the few places
we still do.
