✨ Young Dancers Spotlight ✨

This talented group of young dancers performed a lively Samba to I Wanna Be Like You at our June Showcase.

Ian, Riley, Naiyah, and Ciara train in Ann Arbor and take weekly private lessons with Claire. Along with ballroom dancing, they also study ballet, jazz, and hip-hop, bringing a wonderful variety of skills to the dance floor. For all four dancers, this was their second showcase performance.

Lee, a student in our Kids Intermediate Ballroom Class, also joined the performance and worked hard preparing for the showcase.

Rosie and August continue to be familiar faces on our showcase stage, while Edward, who trains in Windsor, is already an experienced performer and competitor!

We love seeing these young dancers shine on stage, and their performance was a wonderful showcase of their hard work and progress. Behind every performance are hours of learning, practicing, and growing. Through dance, these students are building confidence, coordination, teamwork, discipline, and strong technical skills. Their enthusiasm and commitment make them a joy to teach.

We are incredibly proud of each of these young dancers and look forward to watching them continue to grow both on and off the dance floor.

✨ As dancers grow in ballroom, they gain not only new steps, but also confidence, performance skills, and lasting friendships. ✨

Here are the students from our Kids Intermediate Ballroom Class performing a lively Jive to Zero to Hero from Hercules at our June showcase.

These young dancers have been training with us for several sessions, building on the fundamentals they learned in our beginner program and continuing to develop their technique, musicality, teamwork, and stage presence. Their energy and enthusiasm brought this performance to life, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far they have come.

Ballroom dancing helps children stay active while learning coordination, confidence, social skills, and the value of working together toward a common goal—all while having fun.

🏆 Competition Weekend Recap 🏆

This Thursday and Friday, two of our Ballroom at Its Best dance couples took to the competition floor at the Prestige Danceport Competition in Dearborn, Michigan.

✨ Dorothy & Jay — Pre-Novice International Ballroom (Amateur)
✨ Mike & Claire — Open Gold American Smooth (Pro-Am)

For those unfamiliar with these styles, International Ballroom includes Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep, with dancers remaining in a closed hold throughout the dance. American Smooth includes Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz, allowing dancers to open out of hold and then reconnect, creating additional opportunities for expression and choreography.

We are incredibly proud of both couples. Competitions provide valuable opportunities to gain experience, test skills on the dance floor, meet fellow dancers, and enjoy the excitement of performing and competing. Every event is a chance to grow, build confidence, and celebrate progress—and our dancers did exactly that.

All of these competitors train through weekly private lessons, and it was wonderful to see their hard work, dedication, and preparation reflected on the competition floor.

Congratulations to Dorothy & Jay and Mike & Claire on their achievements. We are proud of your courage, commitment, and willingness to challenge yourselves. We wish you continued success both on and off the dance floor!

✨ Ballroom dancing truly is for everyone—and these ladies proved it beautifully. ✨

Here is our Windsor Ladies-Only Latin Class performing a Swing–Paso Doble fusion to Call Me Cruella from Disney’s Cruella at our June 5th Showcase.

Over the course of the session, these dancers worked hard on developing their individual dance skills—focusing on technique, footwork, arm styling, movement, performance quality, and all those feminine touches that help bring Latin dancing to life. The result was a dramatic, confident, and entertaining performance that showcased just how much they have grown.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, courage, and progress each of these ladies demonstrated from their first class to stepping onto the showcase floor. Watching dancers build new skills, gain confidence, and share their achievements with an audience is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Our Ladies-Only Latin Class is designed for intermediate-level dancers and above. Some students join to refine their technique and strengthen their individual dancing skills, while others choose to take part in showcase performances like this one. Whether you have a dance partner or simply want to focus on your own dancing, this class offers a fun, supportive environment to challenge yourself and continue growing as a dancer.

✨ From our youngest dancers to our most experienced performers, ballroom dancing truly is for everyone. ✨

Here are the students from our Kids Beginner Ballroom Class performing a waltz they prepared throughout their session.

For two of these young dancers, this was their very first ballroom performance. Four students train with us in Ann Arbor and two in Windsor, and for the first time all three couples came together to share the stage in one performance. We are so proud of their hard work, courage, and teamwork.

During their classes, they explored Waltz, Tango, Cha-Cha, and Samba while developing coordination, confidence, musicality, social skills, and partnership—valuable skills that extend far beyond the dance floor.

What Are Private Group Lessons?

Many people are familiar with our group classes and private lessons, but did you know we also offer Group Private Lessons?

Here’s how they work:

In a group class, the instructor teaches material that is planned for the entire class.
In a private lesson, up to four students can share the lesson and the cost while learning exactly what they choose to work on.
When a private lesson includes five or more people, we call it a Private Group Lesson.

The best part? Just like a private lesson, you choose what you’d like to learn.

Some groups use their lessons to:
✨ Learn dances that are not currently offered in our group classes
✨ Do a fun activity with their friends and family
✨ Catch up on material they may have missed
✨ Focus on just one or two dances in greater depth
✨ Improve technique, partnering, musicality, and confidence on the dance floor
✨ Prepare for a special event, performance, or competition

Whether you’re interested in Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Salsa, Rumba, Cha Cha, or any other style we teach, we can tailor the lesson to your group’s goals and interests.

The cost of a Private Group Lesson is $20 per person, making it an excellent way to receive personalized instruction while learning with friends, family members, or fellow dancers.

As summer approaches, Private Group Lessons can be a wonderful option for continuing your dancing, exploring new material, or diving deeper into the dances you enjoy most.

✨ Grace, creativity, and a lifelong love of movement ✨

Here is Naomi performing a Foxtrot with elements of Swing alongside her instructor, Richard, at our June 5th Showcase.

Naomi has been dancing ballroom for several years, focusing on American Smooth. Her dance background goes back even further. She studied ballet and modern dance from the age of three through her mid-twenties. Today, she enjoys using showcases as a creative outlet and as a motivating goal that helps her continue developing her technique, artistry, and overall dancing.

When she’s not on the dance floor, Naomi works as a clinical psychologist in Ann Arbor and is also a busy mother of three.

We are proud of the dedication, creativity, and joy Naomi brings to her dancing, and we wish her continued growth, success, and fulfillment both on and off the dance floor. ❤️

Here are Aleks and Crystal and Julia and Richard performing a beautiful rumba to A Whole New World from Aladdin at our June 5th Showcase. 💃❤️

Aleks and Crystal train in Windsor with their instructor, Claire. After competing for the first time last fall and participating in several showcases, Aleks continues to grow as a dancer—and this showcase marked Crystal’s very first performance on the ballroom floor!

Julia trains in Ann Arbor with her instructor, Richard. As a busy mom and medical researcher at the University of Michigan, she still makes time for dancing, finding joy, relaxation, and a creative outlet amidst a full schedule.

Together, these two couples brought elegance, connection, and emotion to the dance floor, creating a performance that was a pleasure to watch.

🔥 Powerful. Dramatic. Captivating. 🔥

Here is Violet dancing with her instructor, Rob, during our June 5th Showcase, performing a powerful and highly technical Paso Doble that captivated the audience from start to finish.

Violet is one of our most experienced dancers and a familiar face at our showcases. In addition to ballroom, she enjoys and studies other dance styles, bringing a wealth of experience and artistry to every performance. She also competes in Open Gold Latin and Standard and continues to challenge herself at a high level.

Last fall, Violet represented Ballroom At Its Best at Ohio Star Ball, one of the largest ballroom competitions in the United States, and she is already preparing to return this year to compete again in both divisions.

Whether competing or performing, Violet consistently brings dedication, strength, elegance, and passion to the dance floor. Congratulations to Violet and Rob on a fantastic showcase performance and for helping make the evening such a memorable success! ✨💃
