Hey everyone! ArtPrize 2022 is just under 3 weeks away so I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of my piece. This is 1 of 2 giant wings and it’s just about 8 feet in height when standing up! I’m so happy with how this part of the design came out and I can’t wait to show the wings in their full colored glory!

ArtPrize is an international art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI. ArtPrize will be taking place September 15 - October 2, 2022. My piece titled “Their Wildest Dreams” will be located at the Amway Grand Plaza in their Pantlind lobby. I’m so excited to announce that I will be a participating artist in ArtPrize 2022. ArtPrize is an international art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI and it awards more than $500,000 in total cash prizes to its winners. Starting September 15 through October 2, thousands of art pieces made from all mediums and dimensions will be on display at venues around the city. The art piece I will be entering is a 3D, 6.5 ft x 8 ft freestanding piece titled “Their Wildest Dreams” and the description of the piece can be heard in my voiceover of this video. It will be on display at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids. 11 years ago, I visited the Amway for the first time, fell in love with it, and imagined having my wedding there. I ended up not having my wedding there, but I definitely never imagined having one of my art pieces there. God has an amazing way of bringing things full circle.

One of the grand prizes that will be awarded to an artist at ArtPrize is the public vote award. So the more of you that come out in person to see my piece, supports, and votes, the more attention my piece will get.

This piece has been on my heart to create for some time now and it’ll be my first passion project in a very long time. I sketched this 8 months ago so I already know it won’t look exactly like this, but I’m excited to show you all the process of it’s creation and the final result 🤗

Sharing some photos of my latest creation. It stands 7 feet tall and it was a custom ordered art piece. Everything is handcrafted by me including the metal base it stands on. It took WEEKS and so many hours to build this one, but I’m so happy with the final result and so is my client 🤗

A few weeks ago my cousin asked me to make these super unique wax print giant flowers for the grand opening of Rootead and I happily obliged. Surprisingly time consuming, yet one of the coolest flowers I made so far. I chose to make three itoh peonies because of the flower’s flatter surface area and I hand painted the wax print patterns on each petal. They turned out amazing ✨

3.5 years ago I walked into Somerset Collection and thought how amazing it would be to see one of my giant bouquets there. 3 years ago I said one of my dreams is to own my own immersive museum. Today, we are gearing up to open a pop-up selfie museum experience, a storefront located in Somerset Collection 🙌🏾

I always said that God gave me JxD and when I didn’t know which direction to take it in anymore, I gave it back to him. In return, God is bringing to fruition a promise he made to me. He brought along two amazing co-partners for me to work with to see His promise come to life, because he knew I couldn’t do it alone:

Joy x Design and .co are excited to announce Room to Grow Experience. Room to Grow is an interactive pop-up selfie museum experience marrying art and wellness. Through fantastically designed sets, beautiful floral arrangements and larger than life exhibits, Room to Grow aims to create an evolving safe space for the community to engage in mindful activities and dialog while creating memorable experiences.

Room to Grow is located in Somerset Collection South - Level 2, above Louis Vuitton and across from Burberry (like what?! 🤯) We will be opening our doors very very very soon! I’ll make an announcement when tickets are available. Follow for updates as we prepare to open ✨

How beautiful is this?!?! The hanging name in the middle from the wedding this past weekend is the cherry on top (it was the couple’s idea, why didn’t I think of doing this before 🙄). My bride also wanted to cover up the trellis off to the side of her ceremony space, so I covered 8 panels with more giant flowers to match the ceremony arch. I call this group of giant flowers the “All White Collection”. They are handmade giant foam flowers using various other materials as well.

ANNOUNCEMENT: This collection of flowers and my moon gate arch are the only rentals/products I’ll be offering for the near future (custom design requests will still be considered). SO if you’re interested in renting these realistic giant flowers for your event, please reserve your date by emailing me!

Even though you all have been loving the event decor and I’m so thankful you have, this shift in availability is to allow me to pursue some passion projects, be available for larger projects again, I’ll be tapping into my creativity as an artist to bring some fire installations, and it allows me time for the next shift in my life/career. But don’t worry! I still have something in store for you. Hint: it’s something a lot of you have my asking for for a longgg time 😉stay tuned!
