Salud Sin Papeles : Health Undocumented

Salud Sin Papeles : Health Undocumented Jason, a nurse and activist, tears down walls that deny many in the undocumented community the basic human right of access to healthcare. It is a seed for hope.

Sparked by a neo-nazi march, a corageous group of activists organize the community to build a free clinic for undocumented immigrants, breaking the cycle of oppression perpetuated by healthcare disparities. “Salud Sin Papeles” shows how one group of dedicated professionals fulfills Jason’s dream by standing up to and fighting back against a society that says, “No papers, no healthcare.”
The film f

ollows Jason Odhner’s dream. A pioneer for his cause, he partners with Bob and Amy McMullen and together they form Phoenix Allies for Community Health (PACH), a free community-based health clinic. Bob, a medical professor and physician assistant, provides expertise and a core of student-volunteers to staff the clinic, while Amy lends her business knowledge as a commercial real estate agent to tangibly and financially see the clinic to fruition. At PACH we come face to face with those around us who are struggling with health issues while simultaneously struggling to provide for family members here and abroad. The Health Undocumented crew is a group of filmmakers, medical professionals, and journalists who are working together to tell the story of a clinic - of the people, for the people - that will serve as a model for other communities. Ultimately, "Salud Sin Papeles : Health Undocumented" is a seed for change. Contributions to the campaign will help fund the equipment necessary to follow day-to-day activities of characters at the heart of this story, including providers and patients. The majority of funds will go toward post-production costs, including sound mixing and licensing rights, editing, and color correction as well. Subtitling will also be key to making a documentary that is accessible to its entire audience.

It was the middle of summer in Arizona where temperatures can reach 115 Fahrenheit - 43 Celsius. We were filming in the dessert following while they were doing water drops as humanitarian aid for migrants crossing the dessert, as they risked dying looking for a better life in the U.S. Looking at this picture again makes me think about this quote:
“All immigrants are artists because they create a life, a future, from nothing but a dream. The immigrant’s life is art in its purest form.”
