Founder and Director Janet Hegman Shier taught contemporary German Drama and the c

ompany staged plays in German annually in the Keene Theater (formerly East Quad Auditorium) from 1985-2020. Students in this company also took part in Theater and Art study trips led by Shier to Munich or Berlin each year. For more information about the program go to www.janetshier.com

Students in this ensemble learned about the theater of Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal; our method was eclectic and experimental and our "look" was like that of contemporary theaters in Europe. Students in RC "DT" received professional training in stage diction and in movement, and in addition to study trip opportunities as part of their involvement with the program, the company also hosted performers from around the world including Augusto Boal, Kabarett ROHRSTOCK, hip hop artists and break dancers, affiliated with Element 3 (Freiburg), documentary film maker Margarethe Mehring Fuchs, Musicians Paul Brody and Daniel Kahn from Berlin, performance artist Bridge Markland, and Berlin dancers/choreographers Nadja Raszewski and Jacalyn Carley. A highlight of the program was the company's intergenerational activities, where RC DT alumni returned to work side by side with current student actors in day-long workshops that culminated in an intergenerational staging of a piece developed during the day. RC DT was dedicated to ensemble work with an emphasis on experimentation to develop students' acting skills and understanding of improvisation and abstract art.
