Day 5 at Zookeeper Camp – Week 1 Complete!

What an incredible way to wrap up our first week of Zookeeper Camp!

Today our campers had the opportunity to show off everything they learned this week by giving their families tours of the facility. It was amazing watching them confidently share animal facts, explain what they’ve learned, and introduce parents to many of the animals they spent the week caring for and learning about.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was feeding crocodiles with their families. There were plenty of excited smiles, nervous laughs, and unforgettable memories as campers got to share this unique experience with the people who support them every day.

Throughout the week, our campers learned about reptiles, birds, tortoises, animal care, enrichment, habitats, and what it takes to be a real zookeeper. They cleaned enclosures, prepared food, met amazing animals, played games, completed journal activities, made scrapbook memories, and got their hands dirty doing the work that comes with caring for wildlife.

A huge thank you to the DiIorio family and DiIorio Farms in Hempstead for donating fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the week. The campers loved helping prepare treats for our animals, and our tortoises, pigs, and other residents certainly appreciated the fresh snacks.

Another special thank you goes to Two Peas Creations for creating our custom camp shirts. The campers were so excited to have personalized shirts with their names on the back, and they looked fantastic all week long.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our camp families for trusting us with your children. Watching their confidence grow throughout the week has been the best part of camp. We hope they made memories that will last a lifetime.

Week 1 is officially in the books, and we can’t wait to do it all again next week!

Day 4 at Zookeeper Camp was definitely one to remember!

The morning started off with more rain, but that didn’t slow us down one bit. Our campers have been incredible this week, making the best of every situation and proving that a little weather can’t stop the fun.

Today we spent time learning about one of our resident caracaras, Aries. Campers got to observe him up close, learn about his natural behaviors, and discover what makes these unique birds such important members of their ecosystem.

We also played several rounds of Heads Up: Animal Edition, which led to plenty of laughs, creative clues, and some surprisingly impressive animal knowledge from our campers.

One of the highlights of the day was spending time with our tortoises. Since it was already raining, we decided they deserved a little extra attention and gave them a “car wash.” The campers had a blast helping scrub shells, rinse off mud, and spoil our shelled friends with some extra care.

Even with the wet weather, it was another fantastic day full of animals, learning, and memories. We are so proud of how adaptable and enthusiastic our campers have been all week long.

Thank you to all of our camp families for trusting us with your young animal lovers. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

🐊 Day 3 at Zookeeper Camp was one for the books!

Today our campers got up close and personal with one of the most iconic reptiles around: the American alligator. They learned about alligator behavior, adaptations, and safety while helping feed these incredible animals. There were plenty of smiles, excitement, and memories made as they watched the alligators come up for their meals.

📸 We also spent time working on our camp scrapbooks. Campers got to use a Polaroid camera, and for many of them it was their first time seeing one in action. Watching the pictures slowly appear was a fun reminder that not everything has to be instant. They loved adding their photos and memories to their scrapbook pages.

🍉 A huge thank you to DiIorio Farms for donating fresh watermelon for our campers and animals. The watermelon was a hit with everyone, and we are incredibly grateful for their support. If you are looking for a great watermelon this summer, be sure to check them out.

🐢 Some of the best moments of the day happened while simply hanging out with our tortoises. Campers spent time observing them, asking questions, and enjoying the chance to interact with these gentle giants. Sometimes the most meaningful learning happens during those quiet moments.

From feeding alligators to making scrapbook memories, enjoying fresh watermelon, and spending time with tortoises, Day 3 was packed with fun, learning, and unforgettable experiences. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

🦎🐍 Zookeeper Camp – Day 2: Snakes, Lizards, and Lots of Mangoes! 🐍🦎

Today at Zookeeper Camp, our focus was on snakes and lizards! Before any of our campers could help feed the snakes, they had to earn their zookeeper stripes by making sure the enclosures were clean and ready. Animal care always comes first, and our campers did a fantastic job helping with daily husbandry tasks.

We also received a special treat thanks to the generosity of the DiIorio Farms Partnership in Hempstead, Texas, who donated fresh produce for our animals. A huge thank you to them for helping make camp even more memorable! ❤️

Today’s menu for our animal ambassadors included:
🍅 Tomatoes
🥭 Mangoes
🍍 Pineapple

Our tortoises and pigs absolutely devoured the goodies! The mangoes were especially entertaining because of their large pits. Instead of preparing them ahead of time, I let the campers dig the fruit off the pits themselves. Was it messy? Absolutely. Was it hilarious watching them get grossed out while covered in mango? Also absolutely. 😆

The campers also spent time working in their journals. Today’s writing prompt was:

“What is your favorite snake species and why?”

It was great hearing about all the different species that captured their attention after spending the morning learning about and caring for snakes.

From feeding snakes and cleaning habitats to exploring nature, journaling, and getting covered in mango pulp, it was another successful day at camp!

🐊🦝🐢 Zookeeper Camp – Day 1! 🐢🦝🐊

We had a fantastic first day of camp at Crocodile Encounter!

Today, our campers explored the facility, fed giant tortoises, observed crocodiles and other wildlife, met one of our raccoons up close, fed waterfowl and antelope, and started their nature journals. Despite a few mosquitoes and some muddy conditions from the recent rain, everyone had a great attitude and jumped right into the adventure.

One of my favorite parts of the day was watching campers slow down, observe, ask questions, and connect with animals they may have never encountered before. These hands-on experiences are what make camp so special.

Tomorrow, campers will have the opportunity to help feed some of our snakes and lizards and continue learning what it takes to care for a wide variety of animals.

Thank you to all of our camp families for trusting us with your children. We are looking forward to another great day of learning, exploration, and fun!
