MAYOR BRODERICK ANNOUNCES THE PURCHASE OF THE ICE-SKATING RINK

Mayor Thomas Broderick, Jr. announced that the City of Anderson will be purchasing the synthetic ice-rink that has been the center of attention this year in Dickmann Town Center. The 2,150 square foot rink became part of Anderson’s downtown winter scene beginning with its opening on December 11th. Since that time, the downtown area has experienced a substantial increase in activity.

Mayor Broderick stated, “The ice-skating rink in Downtown Anderson has been a huge success and has exceeded our expectations. Since opening, we have had an attendance of approximately 6,000 skaters in the first month. The heaviest attendance being on the weekends, which averages about 700 skaters.”

Additionally, the new rink attracted many non-skating observers to downtown Dickmann Town Center’s synthetic ice rink.

Broderick explained that he had anticipated the possibility of purchasing the rink when it was initially rented, but wanted to make sure that it was going to be well-received by the public. “The positive comments and excitement expressed by the community makes the ice-rink a good investment that builds upon our continuing efforts of enhancing the quality of life for our community.”

Since the City of Anderson will now own the ice-skating rink, Mayor Broderick said that the rink will remain open through the end of January and will remain free to the public.
