And today my precious little one got hands to hold her book open for both herself and her friend and the hint of her dress skirt and cuffs.
Her friend also got some adjusting of his face and coloring. I’m operating on the idea that there are really no rules around dragon coloration or horns!
All very tedious but necessary to get this piece to the place where I want it to be-
Still LOTS more glazings, highlights, and yes back to her face especially eyes and finally her hair!

It seems my little missy has formed her own special book club-
It’s been a long and fun day in the studio….. finally figuring out new pigment mixes and not using black or much white to give my values more depth has been interesting- like trying new stuff without a client ( only a dragon) to please!

I’m really doing a lot out of my comfort zone-
Pigment mix is totally new for human portrait
This multi underpainting ( and not painting the finishing parts at the beginning) is new
I’ve also ordered new luminous paints ( may or may not include on this canvas) and I grounded it with a mix of marble dust gesso and metallic pigment.
The goal is to have some light go layers deep through the finished glazes and refract color light back-
We will see! I’ve been doing a huge amount of research and watching some really great masters who are way over my head!

I know this is faint- it’s the center to my next really really big challenge- a very special portrait of one of my very favorite little persons -
I’ve set her in an exciting place/sirrounding as well-
AND I’m using some under ground material that’s totally new to me-
I will try to post often but I’m sure it will need cure time etc a lot- this piece will be taking lots o glazings to get where I need it to be!

It’s down to one hair at a time for the hare! ( and promise the ‘pink eye’ will be fine in the end!)
Thumper seems to be taking life a bit more seriously after he saw his nighttime friends- the owl and fox!
