Panel #7 looks back at 3 manufacturing giants who laid claim to Anderson.

1896 - Perry and Frank Remy (The Remy Brothers) acquire a 14x20 foot shack at on the southwest corner of Meridian and 12th Street in Anderson, IN to experiment on improved ignition systems for gasoline engines.

1918-1920 - General Motors purchased United Motors in 1918, which included the Remy Electric Company in Anderson. By 1923, Remy became the world's largest manufacturer of automotive electrical equipment.

1926 - Guide Lamp moved to Anderson from Cleveland, specializing in headlights and taillights for GM vehicles like Cadillac and Chevrolet.

General Motors was the industrial heart of Anderson, Indiana, for most of the 20th century, with 20 plants employing over 25,000 workers at its peak in the 1970s

Panel #6 shows us the iconic Lambert Tonneau Model 8. The 5-passenger side-entrance tonneau touring car was manufactured in Anderson, Indiana by the Buckeye Manufacturing Company. It was a key early model for John W. Lambert, featuring his signature friction-drive transmission, a 4-cylinder water-cooled engine, a 98-inch wheelbase, and was priced at $3,000.

This vehicle marked the beginning of a successful manufacturing period for the Buckeye Manufacturing Company which moved to Anderson in 1905.

Panel #5 is bittersweet. In 1824–1825, Pendleton, Indiana, became the site of a landmark legal case where white settlers were executed for killing Native Americans. Following the murders of nine Seneca people (two men Logan & Ludlow, three women, two boys, and two girls), these three white men—James Hudson, Andrew Sawyer, and John Bridge Sr.—were hanged, marking a rare instance of justice for indigenous victims at that time.

Panel #4 is the legendary Vesuvius Flame. The Indiana gas boom (c. 1886–1910) was a pivotal era where the discovery of the massive Trenton Gas Field transformed East-Central Indiana, including Madison County (specifically Anderson), into an industrial hub. Fueled by cheap, seemingly inexhaustible natural gas, the region drew manufacturing industries—notably glass—and triggered rapid population growth, transforming rural areas into industrial cities.

The "Vesuvius Effect" refers to the massive, uncontrolled "flambeaux" lights—unlit pipes that burned gas 24/7, creating massive towering flames that acted as advertisements for the free gas.

Designed by architect George Bunting in an Italianate style, the building featured red brick and limestone, standing three stories tall with a 165-foot clock tower.
