Madison County Historical Society has joined the downtown artwalk and placed 8 new panels illustrated by artist Philip George highlighting some of Madison County Indiana's historical events.
Panel #5 is bittersweet. In 1824–1825, Pendleton, Indiana, became the site of a landmark legal case where white settlers were executed for killing Native Americans. Following the murders of nine Seneca people (two men Logan & Ludlow, three women, two boys, and two girls), these three white men—James Hudson, Andrew Sawyer, and John Bridge Sr.—were hanged, marking a rare instance of justice for indigenous victims at that time.
