The Snow Carving Team, Department of Snow: (order in photo)Tom Lewando, Paul Hanis (team captain) and Patrick Boonstra, created another fantastic snow sculpture during the 2024 Fur Rondy event.
They received 1st place for their sculpture called, “Seasons of Life!”. Consequently, they will be heading to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin Jan. 2025 to represent Alaska!

Their snow sculpture is the life cycle of salmons from birth to death. The details are impressive including: eggs, ferys, a healthy salmon, a decaying salmon with gnarly teeth, and the state flower of forget-me-nots!

The weather here in Anchorage has gotten colder so the melting process will be slowing down but don’t delay seeing it in person along with aprox. 14 other snow sculptures. The location where the sculptures are is downtown near Ship Creek.
Note: All teams started with an 8 foot square block of snow.

These ravens are available to join a new flock! Each fused glass raven is $80.00! (If I need to mail them postage will need to be added.)

As for the Raven’s purchases, please select a number by the raven’s feet and we can discuss how to make payment!

I will be making more fused glass bird ornaments: nuthatches and chickadees. They will be for sell at $25.00 each plus postage if needed!

Greetings!
It has been a long time since I shared any fused glass art..... So, I will in this post! Theses are inspired by our vast mountainous Alaskan Landscapes and I hope you get the feeling of venturing into a fused glass scene. These pieces have been fired 2 to 4 times in the kiln to create layers of melted glass which in turn creates perspective. I’ve been focused on doing multiple firings using sheet glass, frit (small pieces of glass), powders (smaller pieces of glass), stringers (long narrow strips of glass), and enamels. I strived to create visual depth and play with the light both natural and incandescent. These landscape fused glass pieces were created in 2019.

It is a fund raiser for Mt. Illiamna school! The event is featuring the music by Hobo Jim. I will give more details later!!!!
