The Snow Carving Team, Department of Snow: (order in photo)Tom Lewando, Paul Hanis (team captain) and Patrick Boonstra, created another fantastic snow sculpture during the 2024 Fur Rondy event.
They received 1st place for their sculpture called, “Seasons of Life!”. Consequently, they will be heading to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin Jan. 2025 to represent Alaska!
Their snow sculpture is the life cycle of salmons from birth to death. The details are impressive including: eggs, ferys, a healthy salmon, a decaying salmon with gnarly teeth, and the state flower of forget-me-nots!
The weather here in Anchorage has gotten colder so the melting process will be slowing down but don’t delay seeing it in person along with aprox. 14 other snow sculptures. The location where the sculptures are is downtown near Ship Creek.
Note: All teams started with an 8 foot square block of snow.
