On Veteran’s Day 2025, as twilight sank in the southwest, a rare auroral event circled the polar & mid-latitude regions of Earth. It then rapidly expanded equatorward to lower latitudes for much of the world to enjoy in both hemispheres. An auroral display such as this may only occur once or twice a decade. Such vast walls of light, much of it a rich red from atomic oxygen, extend far beyond normal heights above our planet & move over the curvature of the horizon. This event was rare enough that many folks who enjoyed its rare beauty may never see another display like it in their lifetimes…it was a gift!
