I resisted painting with pastels, but finally decided to try it at Andy Sonneborn's studio on 2nd Avenue in Anchorage. That way I didn't need to buy all the colors and have the dust at home. But I have to say, the pastel medium is the best when it comes to painting a Christmas cactus flower.

Dabbling in gouache again. I won't say I'm looking forward to winter, but if it's inevitable, I will enjoy the Bohemian wax wings swooping into the mountain ash trees behind my house come December. These two visited a couple of winters ago. (6x8 watercolor paper).

Sharing a bit more about how I came to Map Anchorage (4/27/24 post) in the way that I did. Here's my latest newsletter.

I've lived in Anchorage for 29 years. I moved here in 1995 to work in the Section of Epidemiology, a part of the state's public health program. During the 16 years with public health, my focus was looking outward to an area more than twice the size of Texas. Art was the furthest thing from my mind.
