The third ArtWorks story is out! 🎬

What happens when young people are given the tools, trust, and opportunity to tell their own stories? Alaska Teen Media Institute (ATMI) gives youth the skills and platform to become creators, storytellers, and media makers, helping build the next generation of Alaska’s creative community.

Later this week, New Native Theatre is presenting a free special staged reading of The Bird Blind, a new play by Alaska Native writer Kira Apaachuaq Eckenweiler, directed by Rhiana Yazzie. 🎭

Set in an Inupiaq village on Alaska’s Norton Sound, it follows a young boy and a troubled hunter who expand the meaning of kinship in a makeshift bird blind. With razor-sharp dialogue and cultural truth, it’s both a gut punch and a prayer.

“The kids when they see their first Nutcracker. The adults when they see a really good comedian, or walk out of a musical tapping their toes. That’s the magic, that’s what makes it worth it.” ❤️

Today is Alaska's first official Arts & Culture Day! 🎭 To celebrate, we're sharing the first story from ARTWORKS, a video series on how the arts impact our community.

At AWAIC (Abused Women's Aid In Crisis), creative expression becomes a pathway to healing, connection, and empowerment. Through art-making, cultural practices, and relationships with local artists, survivors and families find space to express themselves, build connection, and imagine what comes next. 🎨

October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is why we're starting with this story.

Thanks to your support, we just finished installing a new fire panel system in the PAC 🔥🔨 It can detect a fire, pinpoint its exact location, and get emergency crews there faster.

Although it’s not the flashiest building update, it’s one of the most important! We care deeply about the safety of everyone who enjoys the PAC, and this was a much-needed upgrade. Thank you for supporting the arts! 🎭
