This little guy is why.
I’ve seen the comments. The anger. The people saying we’re “ruining emo” because we decided to make some of our shows all ages.
But here’s the thing…
When we were growing up, all-ages shows were where so many of us found our home. They were where we discovered the bands that changed our lives, made lifelong friends, and realized we weren’t alone.
Now it’s our turn to pass that on.
Watching my son stand in the crowd, singing along and smiling while we play the music that helped shape who I am… that’s bigger than any negative comment on the internet.
Emo has always been about acceptance, belonging, and finding your people. Why would we keep that from the next generation?
Not every Emo After Dark show will be all ages. We’ll always have our 21+ nights. But creating opportunities for families, younger fans, and future emo kids to experience this community is something we’re incredibly proud of.
If this music saved us, inspired us, or gave us a place to belong… maybe it’s time we make room for someone else’s first show too. 🖤
The scene doesn’t survive by keeping people out.
