It was a pleasure to welcome more than 125 guests to VCCA’s beautiful hilltop home at Mt. San Angelo last Saturday for our biggest fundraising event of the year. Our 2026 Spring Soirée was a festive celebration of the food, landscape, and creative spirit that make VCCA’s flagship artist residency program so magical.

The VCCA Hay Barn became a vibrant haven from looming rainstorms as we gathered together to enjoy music, art, and an astonishing array of food. Thank you to the local artists and vendors who helped create and capture the special ambiance of the evening.

As part of the evening, special guest Margot Lee Shetterly, author of HIDDEN FIGURES, sat down with VCCA Executive Director Kevin O’Halloran to discuss her experience as a VCCA Fellow, her latest book project, and the importance of time and space for creative work. She summed up the impact of VCCA aptly:

“AI is not going to write the book for me, and I suggest it doesn’t write the book for the rest of us. VCCA is the place to turn off the computers, turn off the phones, and really get in touch with whatever it is that you are trying to say and bring to the world... it's invaluable.”

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the Spring Soirée — each sponsorship, ticket purchase, silent art auction bid, and donation benefits VCCA’s Annual Fund. Contributions to the Annual Fund advance our mission to provide a distraction-free environment in which writers, visual artists, and composer can create.

More photos to come!

"VCCA was a dream I didn’t know I was supposed to have . . . Having ample space and time allowed my work to grow in new ways. Some projects succeeded while others didn’t, but even with only six days, my process accelerated by months. I am so thankful for this experience — it’s a reason in itself to keep working on my art."

✨ LAST CALL FOR TICKETS ✨ Don’t miss your chance to celebrate with us at beautiful Mt. San Angelo on Saturday, April 25, for VCCA's biggest fundraising event of the year. This evening at the VCCA Hay Barn will include a conversation with Margot Lee Shetterly, VCCA Fellow and author of HIDDEN FIGURES, who we're thrilled to welcome as a special guest! All proceeds will benefit the Annual Fund — VCCA’s single most important revenue source. https://secure.qgiv.com/for/galaform2026/event/springsoiree2026

"VCCA has been a critical part of helping me to push my current project over the finish line. The unstructured time and quiet work energy of the other residents, the private studio, delicious meals, and beautiful setting — VCCA provided everything I needed so that I could focus all my energies on writing." Margot Lee Shetterly

At VCCA, $300 provides a full day of creative sanctuary — lodging, a private studio, and three nourishing meals — for one artist. But what truly gain is something deeper: the time and space for artistic exploration, connection, and discovery.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, VCCA awarded more than $1 million in financial assistance last year. Through the Annual Fund, we subsidize residencies for writers, visual artists, and composers who do not receive fully-funded fellowships — covering more than two-thirds of the cost for hundreds of Fellows each year.

You can help us continue this vital work. When you give to the VCCA Annual Fund, you directly support life-changing opportunities for artists.
