Octagonal Mixed Media Art Show had its opening reception and “Phoenix Rising”, my very first interactive art piece, won the Mixed Media Award! Jill Wells () curated a wonderful showcase of a vast mix of artists. I had an incredible time connecting with other artist friends and meeting new ones. On Juneteenth, I’m thankful for all of the people who previously fought for the rights that we can enjoy today. I’m celebrating the opportunities that I can provide for my children. I’m looking forward to an even brighter future full of more love and stronger community. I couldn’t be more grateful. My son had his first entrepreneurial experience on Saturday and I think he’s hooked. My daughter won 1st place in our Regional Soapbox Derby and will be headed to Ohio to compete at Internationals. I’ll continue to nurture and raise up strong, confident, brave, and bold children and prepare their hearts and minds to be a beacon of light in this world. And everyday we will purpose to celebrate our freedoms.

Oh the things you don’t learn about in school. In grade school I never much cared for history class. It didn’t hold much for me to be proud of. But now as an adult the more and more that I learn about the parts left out and unsaid, my heart both leaps for joy and is enraged at the ones who chose to leave me in the dark. We’ve got to do better America. There is so much hidden in the shadows needing to see the light.

This art piece is finally complete. It’s the first paper art that I’ve created since my mom passed away 10 months ago. It’s dedicated to her. The Lion was her absolute favorite.

The Phoenix is my favorite. Can you find the Phoenix in this piece?

Fun fact: I accidentally created the Phoenix. I had drawn one half of a random design and didn’t discover it until I mirrored the other half. I like to think that mom had something to do with it and is smiling from up in heaven. 😊
