Trade the routine for the wild this August.

Join Rec Services for an Intro to Canoe Camping adventure in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. We'll spend five days exploring the pristine lakes and forests of the Sylvania Wilderness, paddling through crystal-clear waters, camping under the stars, and experiencing the best of the Northwoods.

Whether you're new to canoe camping or looking for your next outdoor adventure, this trip is designed for all experience levels.

Trip Dates: August 15–20
Sign-Up Deadline: August 5

Looking for a flexible campus job with great experience and a strong team environment? Iowa State Rec Services is hiring lifeguards for the State Gym and Beyer Hall pools!

As a Rec Services lifeguard, you’ll help ensure the safety of patrons and guests while also monitoring pool chemicals throughout your shifts.

💲 Pay: $12.50/hour
📍 Work at State Gym & Beyer Pool
✅ Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Application review is based on staffing needs, and applicants will be contacted as openings become available.

As campus shifts into summer mode, Iowa State University Recreation Services facilities will be operating on adjusted hours:

📍 State Gym & Beyer Hall
🗓️ Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM
🗓️ Saturday & Sunday: Noon – 6:00 PM

📍 Lied Recreation Center
🚪 Closed for the summer

More recreation. Better retention.

New assessment data from Iowa State Rec Services shows students who engage in more areas of recreation tend to have higher GPAs and stronger retention rates at Iowa State.

From aquatics and adventure to fitness, sport programs, and recreation facilities, involvement matters.

🔹 942,688 total participations across 5 Rec areas
🔹 22,119 unique facility visits
🔹 Students involved in 4 Rec areas averaged a 0.32 GPA increase compared to non-users
🔹 One student participated in all 5 areas and earned a 4.00 GPA
Rec isn’t just about staying active—it’s about building community, connection, and student success.
