What plant is THAT? Now you can look it up. We've put the full plant list for "A Moment in Time" online, the sample garden Austin Eischeid (American, born 1988) designed near The Hub and Morrill Hall. Every perennial and bulb is listed with a photo, organized by sun and shade and by the bulbs underneath. Match a plant to its picture, or use an app like Google Lens or Seeker to identify it on the spot. The garden is free and open at all hours, year-round. Bring a picnic and see what's blooming. 🪻

In 1952, Christian Petersen (Danish-American, 1885–1961) entered an international competition for a monument to the "unknown political prisoner." The Museum of Modern Art's American jury rejected his entry. For decades, University Museums didn't know any of that; the sculpture sat in our collection under the wrong title, attributed to the wrong era. In a lecture last fall and now published on our website, Lea Rosson DeLong reconstructs the history and makes the case for reassessment, arguing that what got Petersen rejected is precisely what makes it worth a second look.
