University Museums is a distinctive organization that encompasses two art museums, a National Historic Landmark historic home museum, a sculpture garden, and one of the largest campus public art collections in the nation. University Museums brings world-class exhibitions with educational programming to Iowa State University, actively acquires works of art to add to the more than 30,000 permanent collection objects, conserves and preserves collections, conducts and publishes curatorial scholarship, and fosters student engagement. Museums and offices will be closed for ISU holidays. All museums close at the end of the day July 22 to change exhibitions. Brunnier Art Museum

What does dance have to do with an art museum?

In works such as Fiesta Dancers and Texas Waltz, artist Luis Jiménez celebrated movement, culture, and community. Those themes came to life Thursday evening as students gathered at the Christian Petersen Art Museum for Museum Meetup: Just Dance.

Led by dance instructor Valerie Williams and presented in partnership with UNIDAS, participants learned social dance steps, created paper flowers, explored the exhibition The Mythic Southwest of Luis Jiménez, and connected with fellow students.

Events like this invite students to experience art beyond the gallery wall through movement, creativity, and shared experiences. We were proud to share the museum with students as a place to learn, connect, and explore together.

A nationally recognized artist spent the week at Iowa State.

Artist Favianna Rodriguez visited campus for a public lecture and hands-on workshop hosted by University Museums and the Iowa State University Memorial Union. Participants learned directly from Rodriguez as they created collage-style posters, experimented with new techniques, and shared the ideas behind their work.

Programs like these create opportunities for students and community members to engage with practicing artists, learn new creative skills, and see how art can spark conversation and connection.

How can art help shape the future?

Join acclaimed artist Favianna Rodriguez for two opportunities at Iowa State this week.

On Wednesday, Rodriguez will explore how art and culture can inspire change, expand our collective imagination, and strengthen our connection to the natural world.

Then on Thursday, put ideas into action during a hands-on workshop where you'll create your own colorful poster around a cause or theme that matters to you.

That's just one of more than 250 objects featured in America 250: Prairie, Plows, and the People's College at the Farm House Museum. The exhibition explores the people, ideas, traditions, and moments that connect Iowa State's story to the broader story of the United States.
