Composed of over 350 student members, the Iowa State University Cyclone Football 'Varsity' Marching Band is a vital part of Big 12 football and Cyclone Nation. Known for their polished and energetic approach to halftime entertainment, the Cyclone Marching Band marches in a variety of styles to sizzling musical arrangements -- performing a variety of different shows over the course of the season. ach year our athletic bands perform before over a half-million people, including the fans who regularly pack Jack Trice Stadium as well as various exhibitions around the Midwest. Most recently, the Cyclone Marching Band traveled to Memphis, Tennessee where they performed during pregame of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and participated in a parade down Beale Street. In the summer of 2016, the ISUCF’V’MB had the distinct honor of traveling to Normandy, France and representing the United States in D-Day ceremonies. Other performances have included the Pinstripe bowl, Insight Bowl, the EV1.net Bowl, the Independence Bowl, the Humanitarian Bowl, and the Eddie Robinson Classic in Kansas City. In 2017, the Cyclone Marching Band was awarded the renowned Sudler Trophy. The Sudler Trophy is a biennial award given to a college or university marching band that has “demonstrated the highest of musical standards and innovative marching routines and ideas, and which has made important contributions to the advancement of the performance standards of college marching bands over a number of years.” The ISUCF’V’MB will hold the trophy from 2017-2019. Through rehearsals, travel, and the excitement of marching in front of thousands of cheering fans, the members of our Cyclone Marching Band share rich experiences that create social as well as musical bonds. Past and current members commonly talk about the family-like bonds created within the band. Like all bands at Iowa State University, the Cyclone Marching Band is open to all students, regardless of major.
