Malian music legend Salif Keïta, widely known as the “Golden Voice of Africa,” has cancelled his planned concert in South Africa, citing growing anti-immigrant tensions and violence targeting African migrants.

Explaining his decision, Keïta said:

“I am not closing the door on South Africa. I am closing the door on violence.”

The decision comes amid growing concern across Africa over attacks and hostility towards migrants from other African countries living in South Africa.

Keïta's message goes beyond music, raising a wider question about the kind of Africa Africans want to build: Can the continent promote Pan-African unity while Africans continue to face hostility in other African countries?
