The mission of Amarillo Opera is to celebrate the voice by providing high caliber operatic performances to the Texas Panhandle, nurturing local talent through community outreach and building passion for opera Amarillo Opera is a fully professional boutique opera company producing a wide variety of standard and adventurous operatic and musical theater
repertoire throughout the Texas Panhandle. The company produces two main stage operas along with an educational opera celebrating Black History Month, a celebration of Latino/Hispanic music and the annual Summer Youth Musical each season in the acoustically acclaimed Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Amarillo and a number of other chamber works and educational operas in a variety of interesting and unusual venues throughout the region. A professional company member of OPERA America, Amarillo Opera has gained a national reputation for its dedication to young regional singers, education, community and diversity coupled with a commitment to presenting standard and unusual repertoire of the very highest artistic standards. The company has, over its history, presented ten world premieres and has received the Success Award from Opera America for its internationally acclaimed Education/Outreach programs. It has been recognized by the State of Texas Senate and House, Texas Commission on the Arts, Texas Parent Teacher Associations, Texas Regulatory and Protective System, the NAACP, the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and several other statewide organizations. In 2011, the company’s critically acclaimed production of La bohème was telecast regionally on KACV-TV and the digital recording now resides in the permanent online archive at PBS.org. The company reaches more than 200,000 people annually through outreach and education programs.
