Join Julie Ratner at our 3rd annual Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival. Experience awe, wonder, and hopefulness by listening to nature sing while walking together in a magical forest. Julie will show how a PNW forest breathes and how trees communicate and nurture each other.
She will give voice to the mushrooms using a special device, 'Plants Play' which translates their electric signals into music, similar to biofeedback. Everyone will connect deeply to nature and listen to mushrooms sing. Then, everyone will go home with a link to different Quinault mushroom recordings to share with friends and family.

This is a special ticketed workshop that takes place during the Mushroom Festival on Oct 3rd. We're offering AM and PM sessions with special guests Mycologist Dr. Michael Beug and Ecologist Regina Johnson. Bring all your mushroom questions to be answered! Get in the woods fungal friends, the mushrooms are fruiting! Here is one of our favorites, the Lobster! Did you know? Lobster mushrooms are actually a parasitic ascomycete fungus (Hypomyces lactifluorum) that grows on various species of milk cap and brittle gill mushrooms. A twofer! When you pick a lobster, you're getting double the fungal fun! In our area they love to grow on Russula brevipes - aka our massive short-stemmed white russulas. They turn a normally mediocre edible into a glorious tasty treat. But wait, there's more! Did you know they're also valued for their natural pigment?! It's true, you can make a beautiful lightfast dye or paint from the skin of Lobsters, and it's a great way to use them when you find them a little past their prime for eating.
Want to learn how to cook these and other gourmet wild mushrooms? Sign up for our culinary workshop!
Want to learn how to utilize their color? Sign up for our Mushroom Dye Workshop!

Grow Your Own Mushrooms Naturally at our 3rd Annual Quinault Rainforest Mushroom Festival!

Learn the basics of cultivating mushrooms using freshly cut logs and mycelium-inoculated plugs. Our instructor, Bob Blackett, Clallam Co. Master Gardener, will guide you through the entire process: from selecting the right wood to drilling, plugging, and sealing your log for optimal growth.

Each participant will leave with their very own turkey tail mushroom log (approximately 18" long), ready to take home and grow. All tools, materials, and wood are provided—just bring your curiosity!

This is a special ticketed workshop during the fest on Oct 3rd. We're offering AM and PM sessions and we expect them to fill up fast. Learn more and get your tickets at www.QRmushfest.com
