Get ready for a season celebrating (and poking fun at) the art of theatre both new and old! The 2026-27 schoolyear at AAHS will feature two shows with a lot of heart, just 400 years apart! Look for ticketing information later next fall!

FALL PLAY: Shakespeare in Love (High School Edition)
November 6-7, 2026

Based on the Academy Award-winning movie, this enchanting, hilarious, romantic stage play reimagines William Shakespeare's creative process – and explores his inspiration – as he writes Romeo and Juliet.
Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block. The deadline for his new play is fast approaching, but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse... the feisty, brilliant and beautiful Viola. This crafty young woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms, inspiring him to write his greatest romantic masterpiece.

SPRING MUSICAL: The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes (High School Edition)
April 8-10, 2027

With music written by AAHS distinguished alum Michael Kooman and lyrics by Christopher Dimond, AAHS students will be given the rare opportunity to collaborate with the writers to premiere this hilarious, new tongue-in-cheek spectacle in our community!
Howard Barnes is a perfectly average American guy…until the day that he wakes up to discover that his life has become a musical! Desperate to escape, Howard embarks on a hilarious quest to get out, a journey that takes him through the often absurd realm of musical theatre. Equal parts satire and love letter to the American musical, THE NOTEWORTHY LIFE OF HOWARD BARNES is a musical for people who love musicals, and their friends who hate them.

Last evening’s Isaac Awards Ceremony was yet another wonderful showcase and celebration of all the young talent in our region of Pennsylvania. Each year, we’re amazed by the performances achieved by all our neighboring schools, and we are so proud that out of that competitive field, our show was recognized as the Best Production for this year!!! In total, our school was honored with 10 awards and six additional scholarships totaling $11,500 (see full list below), along with the annual $500 donated by Ann and Bill Benzel to each participating school! All our gratitude to for continuing to give back to our community with these generous opportunities for our students! And congratulations to the cast and crew of the Secret Garden!!!

Our drama students performed a wonderful Spring Showcase this past Monday! The evening featured solos and duets from the Musical Theatre class followed by adapted Shakespeare scenes written and directed by the Advanced Theatre and Studio Theatre classes. The scenes included “Much Ado About a Bench,” “Law & Order: Measure for Measure,” “Merchant of Venus,” “Julius Caesar High School,” and “SpongeRichard III.” Bravo to all!!!

This past Wednesday our Thespian Troupe #10718 was proud to induct a record 29 new members! This honor is only achieved by documenting 200 hours of excellent work in the theater! We also had 6 new Honor Thespians (600 hours) and 3 National Honor Thespians (at least 1200 hours!). The commitment and passion of our students is second to none!

We were also thrilled to share the results of the state Thespy competition during the evening’s events- 3 students achieved an excellent ranking and 6 students achieved a superior (full list below)! The superior ranking qualifies them to submit their entry to the national competition in June.

We are so honored by this recognition for all of the talented, dedicated students who worked so hard to pull off this beautiful show! We’ll find out the results at the awards ceremony on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:30pm in the Mishler Theatre.
