It's been a minute since I have been able to put out a same day edit. But this was shot this afternoon. Additionally, for another first in a long, LONG time I am posting this on Facebook before it hits Instagram. I spend the vast majority of my energy (perhaps incorrectly? Who knows?) on Instagram over Facebook.

Enough rambling.

Infrared photography presents some unique and interesting challenges. I shot this a while ago and just haven't been able to get into the editing of it. Today I decided to tackle it head on.

Let me start by saying this:

All conventional editing wisdom goes out the window with IR. It's a totally different animal. I spent the better part of two hours watching tutorial videos, then an additional two hours tweaking colors, hue, saturation, vibrancy, etc. to get this.

It's not perfect, (largely because in IR I am a complete novice, but also equipment. You get what you pay for and my IR setup is weak!) but for a first run at an incredibly difficult (at least for me) discipline, I am thrilled with the results.

Oquirrh Mountain -

Finally back at it.

It's been a minute for many, many reasons. But ultimately, I was taking a break.

Too many things going on, too much to focus on and worry about. Funny enough though, after editing tonight, I feel better than I have in months.

Photography is my release. It's cathartic for me. It is my pressure valve. It's so difficult for me to accurately express how needed it is for me to do photography. So when it got stale toward the beginning of this year, I knew I was in trouble. For a while I was pretty numb to the likes and comments. I wasn't really happy with the direction my work was going with my editing style, and I was focused (way too much) on getting followers and growing. Don't get me wrong, I want to grow my art, and get as large an audience as I can, but that has to be secondary. I need to remember why I love what I do: I love it because it makes me happy. I love it because I get such a rush of joy from shooting and editing. I love it because it's what I know I am supposed to be doing. I love it because it draws me closer to my God and fulfills me in ways I can't explain.

This is where I am happiest.

Thank you all who have been with me on this journey and have supported me. As soon as things are close to back to normal, I want to get out again and be back in the world working.
