Today I turn 34. For my birthday, I want to share a story about family and cancer.
My son was born 9 years ago and nothing has brought me more joy or meaning. I’m so lucky and honored to be that boys momma. We have a good setup now but it wasn’t always like that.
It takes a village.
After Abel was born my marriage collapsed. I was left with nothing. No car, or income…. and a baby to take care of. I had to relocate to start over. I couldn’t figure out how to make it work and I had to ask my in-laws to take care of my son while I started over.
Being separated from my son during that time was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, but I knew he was safe. I knew he was cared for. Loved. Protected.
One of the people who cared for Abel during this time was his Aunt Ashley Neighborgall.
Which brings me to the purpose of this story. Ashley’s family is now experiencing hardship. She is a wonderful mother to three young children and has a loving husband who is now battling cancer. They need help.
I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a lot of business owners, creators and wonderful people over the past 10 years. A lot of you helped me when I needed it and now I want to give back (even in the smallest way by sharing this.)
