After a warm reception last summer at the 51st Annual Georgia Blueberry Festival, The Blue Root Jazz Combo from Troy, Alabama returns to Alma for a special evening at The Bacon Theatre on Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 PM.
Join us for a relaxed, welcoming night of music for the whole community — perfect for a Valentine’s date, a night out with friends, or an introduction to live jazz for first-time listeners.
The Blue Root’s sound moves easily between classic jazz, funk, R&B, and modern pop favorites, blending familiar tunes with deep grooves and improvisation - making every performance unique.
The Blue Root features accomplished musicians Zayne Maddox (saxophone), Myles J. Thomas (keyboard), David Kintner (bass), and Dominique “Doc” Taylor (drums). Their performances balance sophistication and approachability — engaging for music lovers while fun, energetic, and accessible for audiences of all ages.
Founding member and drummer Dominique “Doc” Taylor, a graduate of Coffee County High School, is especially well known throughout southeast Georgia. In his time at Troy University, Doc has performed in nearly every major ensemble on campus, including serving two years as Head Drum Major of the Sound of the South Marching Band. He has shared the stage with artists ranging from Grammy winner Chad LB and Grammy nominee Patrick Bartley to Kirbi (Season 28 of The Voice), among many others.
In addition to performing, Doc is active as an educator across Alabama and Georgia. He has contributed arrangements or been an instructor for Ware, Brantley, and Coffee County marching bands.
(Doc has even graced The Bacon Theatre stage once before, playing in the house band for one of our variety shows!)
We hope to see you for a lovely evening of live music in the beautiful Bacon Theatre in downtown Alma!
