Myles J. Thomas - Keys 🎹

🎶 Meet the Band 🎶

In the lead-up to our concert this Thursday, we’re highlighting each member of The Blue Root Jazz Combo — starting with someone many folks in southeast Georgia already know.

🥁 Dominique “Doc” Taylor – Drums

Dominique “Doc” Taylor is a drummer, educator, and arranger from Coffee County, Georgia, currently studying music at Troy University. A familiar face throughout southeast Georgia, Doc has built a reputation as a versatile musician equally at home on the concert stage, in a musical theatre pit, on the marching field, or behind a drum kit at a jazz gig.

At Troy, Doc has performed in nearly every major ensemble on campus, including the Troy University Jazz Band, Symphony Band, POPulus, and the Sound of the South Marching Band, where he served two years as Head Drum Major. He currently studies percussion under Dr. T. Adam Blackstock while continuing to expand his work in both classical and contemporary settings.

Along the way, he has shared the stage with artists including Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Chad LB, Patrick Bartley, and Kirbi (Season 28 of The Voice).

Locally, Doc has appeared at the Georgia Blueberry Festival with Big Sound of the Okefenoke and as the house band drummer for our 2021 Variety Show.

Beyond performing, he frequently returns to the region as an educator — working directly with Brantley County’s band programs and contributing some arrangements for Coffee County and Ware County.

You can catch Dominique this Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 PM at the Bacon Theatre for The Blue Root Jazz Combo - For The Love of Music: A Night of Jazz, Funk, and R&B!

Founding member and drummer Dominique “Doc” Taylor, a graduate of Coffee County High School, is especially well known throughout southeast Georgia. In his time at Troy University, Doc has performed in nearly every major ensemble on campus, including serving two years as Head Drum Major of the Sound of the South Marching Band. He has shared the stage with artists ranging from Grammy winner Chad LB and Grammy nominee Patrick Bartley to Kirbi (Season 28 of The Voice), among many others.

In addition to performing, Doc is active as an educator across Alabama and Georgia. He has contributed arrangements or been an instructor for Ware, Brantley, and Coffee County marching bands.
