It's , a day where we celebrate the incredible world of lizards, from garden-dwelling geckos to Komodo dragons!

Speaking of dragons, this is Saphira! Many of you may have encountered her on exhibit or during our Komodo feedings. She is known (and loved) for her spunky attitude. While she looks rather silly here, the dangers of these massive land monitors are not to be underestimated!

Hello everyone, my name is Chris, a jack-of-all-trades here at Reptiland. My fellow staff and zoo guests usually find me drinking eight cups of coffee on a long Saturday in the gift shop, being chased by emus in the Dinosaur Park, or getting bit by animals at shows or encounters or when cleaning cages, etc., but I love being able to both work with and help my keeper friends here at the zoo. They all deserve so much recognition for their hard work daily. Being a keeper is not an easy job! Keepers work long hours. At times we are all physically and mentally exhausted by the end of the day. And Reptiland has some of the best keepers I have ever known.

I have been coming to Reptiland since I was a kid, and my daughter Erica grew up here at the zoo. She considers many keepers to be her close friends as well. And she loves helping out when she can!

Besides helping my friends in the zoo and in the gift shop, I enjoy talking to guests and watching the excitement on children's faces every week.

My favorite animals at the zoo are our resident celebrity turtles "Cuff" and "Link" from the movie Rocky Balboa. I am a huge Rocky fan. I was shocked when we were asked to take the turtles. I love helping to take care of them at the zoo each week. Plus I love using them for my animal encounters since red-eared sliders are one of the world's most invasive species of turtles - outcompeting native turtles by taking over basking spots and food. We even used them in our shows for National Invasive Species Awareness Week.

So I just want to close the week by saying thank you to all the keepers at Reptiland for your time and hard work. It doesn't go unnoticed. I love hearing in the gift shop what a great job you all do. And a shout out to all zookeepers: Happy National Zookeeper Week!

Howdy! I'm Jeremy, and I have been a keeper here for about a year and a half now. Before starting as a keeper, I worked at another zoo in education for nearly 2 years. My college education was mainly focused on mammals and fish, but I have gained a deep appreciation for reptiles throughout the years.

The fellow individual in the picture with me is Boris, one of our boa constrictors. Although he may seem quite intimidating to some, he is just a big goofball. He loves to explore and climb as high as he can reach. He can be a bit stubborn sometimes, but I still love him.

After working with a myriad of animals throughout my life, one of my favorite aspects of it has to be learning an individual animal's personality. It can be difficult to discern at times, but it always pays off to learn what certain animals like, dislike, and how they interact with the world around them.

Hello everyone, my name is Ian, and I’ve been a keeper here at Reptiland for about two and a half years! I grew up locally, so Reptiland was a destination throughout my childhood. I’ve always loved reptiles for as long as I could remember, with a special interest in snakes. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a variety of unique species from around the globe. Nowadays the vast majority of my experience and expertise revolves around venomous snakes, which are some of my absolute favorites. My favorite animals to work with are most definitely rattlesnakes, especially our eastern diamondbacks, which happen to be the largest rattlesnake species on the planet! It has been such a pleasure to work with such an amazing team these past couple of years! Happy Zookeeper Appreciation Week to our entire zoo team!

Hi reptile lovers! I'm Ania, and I've been a zookeeper at Reptiland for a little over a year now! Every day I get to work with some of the coolest animals from all over the world, and honestly, I still have to pinch myself that this is my job. It's hard to pick favorites, but I definitely have a soft spot for our native East Coast species and our parakeets in the aviary. They're always full of personality and make every day a little different. As much as I love the animals, one of the best parts of working here is being part of such an awesome team. Happy Zookeeper Appreciation Week!

Hey everyone! My name is Gretchen, and I've been at Reptiland since May of this year.

Growing up in Millville, I used to visit Reptiland all the time as a kid, so having the opportunity to work as a keeper here has been serendipitous. Being a newer keeper means I get to learn something new every day, and I love getting to share what I’ve learned about our animals with our guests. My favorite animal is our legless lizard, Lieutenant Dan, who I like to call our resident drama queen. He might act all tough, but he ain’t got no legs, so he doesn’t scare me.

Hi! I’m Brenna. I started at Reptiland in 2021 as an intern and, throughout the years, have become our Senior Zookeeper! I’m most passionate about our Great Horned Owl, Wallace, our adult alligators, and our venomous reptiles (especially the cobras)! Education is my favorite part of the job, and I just absolutely love bringing these unique experiences to guests of all ages. There is no better feeling than getting to be around these animals every single day and sharing my love and passion for them with you.

Wallace is a rehab bird that cannot be released into the wild. Though he is currently too nervous to be on display, Brenna is working with him in hopes that we can present him in the future for display and/or educational programming.

Hi there, Keeper Daniel here.

Did you know your cat isn't the only one that doesn't like baths? Sirphis here was quite nasty and needed a little help getting clean this winter. As you can see, she came out of the wash sparkling clean! My discovered passion is crocodilian education. Many people despise crocodilians the world over, but they're amazing animals that deserve the utmost respect. American alligators are my personal favorite.
