The Blue Whale of Catoosa was built in the early 1970s by Hugh Davis and Harold Thomas. It was created as gift for Davis’ family and as a place for his grandchildren to play. 🩵 🐳
It grew into a popular spot for locals and travelers on Route 66, eventually becoming a free public attraction.
Over time, it closed and fell into disrepair.
The Blue Whale of Catoosa was later restored and reopened for the public to enjoy.
It’s now owned by the city of Catoosa.
I was excited to see it! It’s been a landmark I’ve wanted to visit for years. It was closed for refurbishments while I was there but it was still super cool to see it from the road!
A new visitor center is being built on the property.
