I recently went over to someone’s house who had a really low ceiling I their basement. Every time I walked from one room to another I hit my head. Even knowing the ceiling dropped and ducking I’d still hit my head. It was crazy 😝 I couldn’t believe how many times it happened to me. About the seventh time it happened I felt the voice oh God tell me “Alexi this is what happens when you are in a place where you can’t reach your full potential. It’s painful and no matter what you do to try to fit in that place you’ll always end up hurt.” I felt it was a powerful message to anyone who may feel trapped. For anyone who is restricting their talent and who they are for something less than they were made for. God has created you to reach heights unimaginable. Don’t let someone else decide where you cap your potential. If you’re in that place find the nearest exit!

Maybe it was out of fear. Maybe it was a power complex issue because of alternative motives.
Regardless, about five years ago, a well known songwriter stopped me in the hall of a music conference and told me in quote “Alexi, you’re not a songwriter, just stick to production work.”
Fast forward to this past week. Here’s a picture of the New Year’s party. This room is filled with more talent than you can imagine. All I can say to that songwriter is, “Look at me now!” Also, “Thank you 🙏🏻 for giving me the immense pleasure of proving you wrong.”

This past year I wrote some insanely good songs with unbelievably talented artists. To this particular songwriter (probably know who you are) - Who are you to minimize my abilities so you can take advantage of me? I am a songwriter. I am actually among the best songwriters out there.
Here’s to anyone and everyone working towards a dream and meeting resistance. Don’t let anything negative that anyone says about you define you. Labels dont belong on you. You can become whomever you want to be and go wherever you are called to go.
And when you get there, Man does it feel good!
