But as I grew older, I veered into scientific and research topics rather than art. It might have been a midlife crisis that brought me back to art, but I started taking art classes about 12 years ago. I am now creating all kinds of art, including mosaics, watercolor and acrylic paintings, and collages. I find that like many fellow artists, I am the "ultimate recycler," finding ways to reuse materi
als and even themes. For example, some of my collage pieces use a watercolor painting as a base or background, with patterns and layers created by adding hand-painted papers or other found objects. Similarly, when I create mosaic piece, I often use discarded plates, glassware or tiles, as well as glass scraps from my friends who are stained glass artists. When I find an image or theme I truly like, I also get a kick out of reinterpreting it in a different media. Look for my work at the wonderful Del Ray Artisans gallery, at 2704 Mt. Vernon Ave, in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA and at the fabulous Palette 22 restaurant (4053 Campbell Ave) in the Shirlington section of Arlington!
