Calling Creatives of Color!
AATE’s Leaders of Color Institute (LOCI), presented November 5th and 6th, is a space for artists, teachers, arts professionals, administrators, and anyone who wants to expand or hone their leadership knowledge and skills. This dedicated space only for people of color will provide professional development opportunities that include peer exchange, artistic vision, and leadership skill development. It is also an opportunity to share your work, successes, and challenges and make new connections with potential collaborators. The LOCI will help shape the next generation of the arts to better reflect the communities present.
This event features an artistic keynote panel on Fri November 5th at 7:30pm and an education panel on Fri November 6th at 4:30pm, and virtual workshops and mentoring spaces all day Saturday.

Convergence Theatre Artistic Director Elena Velasco is a proud collaborator along with Joel Jason Rodriguez and Alexis Truitt on the second gathering for the Leaders of Color Institute as a launch for AATE's Annual Conference. This small but mighty group began in November 2020 and will feature opening keynote Tawnya Pettiford-Wates (Founding Artistic Director of The Conciliation Project -TCP, Professor of Theatre at Theatre VCU, and contributor to the renowned book, Black Acting Methods by Dr. Sharrell D. Luckett and Tia M. Shaffer). Hope to see you there.

The 2021 Summit Committee has been engaged in an intentional and inclusive process to evolve the annual Theatre Summit, gathering input and information from theatre-makers across the community about themes, sessions, and goals. ALL theatre-makers and students in the DMV are welcome and encouraged to attend. More details on sessions, speakers, and ticketing will be coming in early July.
