MORE FAQ’S ABOUT MetroBarre

What is MetroBarre Fitness? Metro-Barre is a one hour full body workout that fuses the elements of Ballet and Pilates inspired movement, Sports Conditioning exercises and Yoga for a truly unique and fun fitness experience. The exercises are low impact in nature but high intensity intervals of strength training followed by deep recovery stretching. Metro-Barre will evenly sculpt and transform the entire body, resulting in a beautifully toned body. No dance, Pilates or yoga experience required!! What do you do in a MetroBarre class? Every Metro-Barre class begins a warm-up, followed by series of upper body exercises using light hand-held weights. The ballet barre is used to sculpt the lower body, strengthen core muscles and for flexibility training. Then it is down to the yoga mat utilizing a fitball for more core work and then finally some yoga inspired stretches ending with a final relaxation. What do you wear in a MetroBarre class? Please wear comfortable workout wear. We suggest tight fitting “yoga type” clothing so that the instructor can easily see form and alignment. The workout is done barefooted but can also be done in ballet or jazz shoes. What do I bring to a MetroBarre class? We have everything you will need for your MetroBarre class including yoga mats, hand held weights, fitballs, yoga blocks and blankets. You are always welcome to use our yoga mats but suggest bringing your own if you have one simply for hygiene reasons. Please bring your own water bottle and remember to stay hydrated throughout the class! Who can participate in a MetroBarre class? MetroBarre Fitness has been designed for ages 16 and up and will benefit people of every fitness level. If you have any injuries, it is recommended that you consult with your doctor before beginning any new exercise program. Also, be sure to let your MetroBarre Instructor know about your injuries before class begins so modifications can be offered. If you are pregnant and have been exercising regularly and have no serious medical problems with an uncomplicated pregnancy, it may be safe to participate in a Metro-Barre class; however, ALL pregnant clients must provide a written consent from their physician. We appreciate your help in making the MetroBarre Fitness experience as enjoyable as possible for everyone so please make a note of the following studio policies. Please arrive at least 5 minutes prior to class and check in with the front desk. Please refrain from wearing perfume or heavily scented body lotions to respect those with allergies. Such allergies can cause nausea and migraines
Cell phones must be turned off or on silent during class. If you need to take a call, please be sure to leave the studio to do so to avoid disrupting the class.

✨ Meet Melanie Latrash – MSA’s Adult Dance & Fitness Director! ✨

Melanie has been inspiring movement for 25+ years (Yoga, Aerobics, Step, Barre—you name it!) and has been part of the MSA family for 24 years. Born in Naples, Italy, she’s lived all over the U.S. as a proud Navy spouse, bringing her passion for fitness everywhere she goes.

Her favorite yoga pose? Warrior II – a symbol of strength, focus, and courage. 💪
Her favorite Friday night? Dinner + game night with family & friends.
Fun fact: She grew up twirling the baton! 🎶
Best advice from her mom: “Listen twice as much as you speak” and “This too shall pass.”

When she’s not teaching, you’ll find Melanie cooking, wine tasting, entertaining, or decorating for the holidays. Oh, and she LOVES Indian & Italian food!

We’re so lucky to have her leading our adult fitness & dance programs with energy, joy, and heart. ❤️

Sooooo....Metropolitan School of the Arts is building out a new studio space over the summer, so during the construction, MOVE (aka MSA Fitness) will be offering our amazing Yoga and Barre classes via ZOOM for July and August! We are running an incredible special for just $150 for Unlimited Classes for July and August! Here's a question for you? How have you been taking care of yourself lately?
