Our centers in Alexandria, Falls Church, and Shirlington offer physical and cognitive play, memorable birthday parties, and a café with delicious food and beverage options. We believe that families need different types of play to help children develop and for adults and children to enjoy their time together. Scramble has the only World of Play system in the United States. It was built by the UK’s
leading soft play manufacturer, Soft Brick, and it features the two types of play essential for child development: physical play and cognitive play. Physical play has two parts: gross-motor, or large movement, play is very energetic and is needed for bone density, muscle strength, and flexibility; fine-motor play is more about muscle control. Physical play is perhaps the most common activity thought of when adults think about children playing. Yet it is cognitive play that is now believed to be the biggest factor in how human brains develop differently from other animals. Cognitive play comes naturally to children, if they are given the opportunities to play freely in a stimulating and safe environment. This is what Scramble uniquely provides with the World of Play system. A current description of cognitive play has 4 types of play: creative, imaginative, social, and storytelling. As a child develops and matures, he or she will build their range of cognitive play to include more and more of each type. Very young children will start with creative and imaginative play. As toddlers move from parallel play to engage with others, they will start playing socially. At the Elementary school level, children will be exploring storytelling play and utilizing their imaginations and creative skills in earnest. We’re here to provide safe, clean fun for kids — and the grownups who love them!
