Our queen had been called home. A blanket of despair has covered the south. Has covered the world, I’d say. She was everything I ever wanted to be. For as long as I can remember. I saw best little wh******se in texas when I was like five and hoped I could grow up to be just like her 🤣. I’ve been obsessed with her and her magic ever since. Honest, endlessly creative, giving, free of judgement, funny, smart, and sassy. And still country. With a beauty that radiated from within. She sparkled. Both literally and figuratively.

Motion to fly all the flags at half mast this week. We have lost our national treasure. Together we mourn our queen.

💔

May we all find a little Dolly in our soul now and forever

Sweet Daisy May
Nine years wasn’t nearly long enough.
She’s with my momma now and I know my Momma’s taking good care of her.

Giving my new Tortuga • Pottery Tools sgraffito set a test run today! I am already in love with the variations of tips that allow for lots of different line weights! And the freaking super cool stand to hold the bits! So smart for neurospicy folks like myself who tend to lose stuff left and right! Check back in to see how it goes!

Sweet summertime! New mug! Wild cherries! Dang yall, I really love this time of year!

You guessed it - new clay (mastodon cone six black clay by Mammoth Clay Company), new slip (Appalachian courtesy of my land in ) and amaco underglazes!

I teach during the week but can’t wait to get back in the studio on Friday and start decorating more pots! These have been so fun. Personally I am loving the soft yellows, pale greens and white flowers on this black clay/dark red slip combo. Help me pick! What color flowers should I try on the next batch???

Well, it’s already mid july somehow and summer is just hopping along, aint it?!
🐇💛🌿

My love of plants and flowers, fairy tales and storytelling, of hand sewing, of nostalgia - all of them informing my imagery. In a world that constantly feels choatic, I just want to invite a little bit of whimsy and joy to brighten little moments of my day.

I’m really into this new bowl form! Actually I am revisiting an old form I used to make a long, long time ago! And i love how this relates to my new mug forms! These QTs are more tests from my wild Appalachian yard slip on the mastodon clay from Mammoth Clay Company ! Hand-painted with Amaco Brent underglazes and hand-carved. Also, really intrigued by these bold contrasting colors and the quietness of how they slightly desaturate on the slip.

Yall. Finally!!!! I unloaded my first glaze kiln since surgery last fall! I wanted to share with yall one of many new pots! with new clay and new colors!

This one is the midrange mastodon by Mammoth Clay Company . Featuring my Appalachian red slip dug from my land in Leicester NC. Painted with AMACO Create underglaze and carved.

Im still studying them and gathering information. But I’m excited with where they’re going. Posting more pots and am so excited to share these explorations with yall! Stay tuned in the coming days!

And I hope to finally restock Clayspace later this week!!!

Elvira is just goth Dolly Parton ->

So I took myself over to the newly reopened to pick up some BMix (white clay) and then promptly drove to to pick up some more mastodon by (the black clay). And while it may be wildly weird to some to decide mid career to start working with two polar opposite clays, I feel like something in my soul finally feels balanced. Like my Dolly and Elvira sides are both finally represented. ☯️

Also, the new village potters location has a retail space! Its still getting established but you can already go pick yourself up clay, glazes, underglazes and tools! I got to go on a little tour of the new facility and the gallery and educational spaces are so beautiful, so light and very expansive. I cannot wait to see what magic Sarah and the Village Potters create over there.

ALSO - get yourself to Canton for classes, open studios, mammoth clay, and to meet sweet Hannah who is the dreamy owner of the coziest space in all of wnc !

Yall should know both of these studios flooded in Helene and these warriors have made an incredible comeback! These women are resilient and amazing, yall! Go give these lovely creative spaces your support if you’re a potter or an aspiring potter or even if you’re just a collector!

PART TWO!

New glaze tests that I am super excited about! Also - Thanks for all the love yall. I came on here yesterday mostly to show yall these fun tests i have been working on. But i also figured i couldn’t really just appear here without an explanation as to where I have been and why I literally have one piece of pottery at Clayspace right now (currently my only gallery) 🤣. I had no idea how sweet and supportive yall were gonna be! Thank yall so much for that. Some of uour kind words had me in tears this morning! Soooooo anyway - here’s my cute glaze tests and a little explanation about why my work is evolving! I miss seeing all yall out in the real world and hope to squeeze every single one of yall in real life soon!

love love love all of yall!
