Day One of the 9th Annual Mindfield Film Festival is officially underway.

Rachel Michaela sits down with Derek J. Bauder and Bobbi bauder at Oak & Fire BBQ in Albuquerque for a conversation about independent filmmaking and Hunters, written and directed by Derek Bauder.

Set in the remote New Mexico wilderness, Hunters follows a hunting retreat that becomes a dangerous intersection between a wealthy client seeking trophies and two troubled employees carrying deadly secrets.

Hunters screens at the Mindfield Film Festival on Saturday, August 29 at 6:00 PM at The Guild Cinema, 3405 Central Ave NE in Albuquerque. A filmmaker Q&A follows the screening block.

What a way to kick off the 9th Annual Mindfield Film Festival.

We had a great time at our Opening Night Social at Oak & Fire BBQ in Albuquerque, mingling with filmmakers, cast, crew, friends, family, and supporters from the independent film community. Great conversations, great people, and some seriously tasty BBQ made for the perfect start to festival weekend.

Now it’s time for the movies. The Mindfield Film Festival runs August 27–30, with screenings taking place at the historic Guild Cinema in Albuquerque.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped us start year nine on such a high note. We’re looking forward to an incredible weekend of independent film, filmmaker Q&As, new connections, and celebrating the artists who make it all happen.

We gave her the microphone again.

Rachel Michaela, back by popular demand, returns for her second year as Master of Ceremonies at the 9th Annual Mindfield Film Festival.

A film and television actress, comedian, producer, and arts educator, Rachel is the Executive Director of Improv New Mexico.

She’ll be on the mic throughout the festival, bringing her quick wit, curiosity, and love of a good story to four days of independent film and the people bold enough to make it.

Rachel is thrilled to be back celebrating original work, creative risk, and the filmmakers, actors, and writers behind this year’s selections.

Singer-songwriter Daniella is an emerging New Mexico talent bringing her original music to the Mindfield stage.

With a growing body of original music and live performances, Daniella is part of New Mexico’s creative music scene, and we’re excited to have her join us for a special performance during Mindfield’s closing day.

Nick H**b serves as Mindfield’s Head Screenplay Panelist and brings a strong background in both screenwriting and literary storytelling. He is a published novelist, screenwriter, and college writing professor who holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University.

As the moderator of this special live discussion, Nick will lead the screenwriters behind Mindfield’s 2026 officially selected scripts through a conversation about where their stories began, how their screenplays developed, the challenges they faced during the writing process, and where they hope to take their projects next.

The panel offers an inside look at the craft of screenwriting from writers actively developing original work, with discussion centered on storytelling, structure, inspiration, revision, and the creative process behind bringing a screenplay to life.

We’re excited to welcome Dan Gutierrez to the 9th Annual Mindfield Film Festival for a special live panel, Inside the Critics Choice Awards.

Dan Gutierrez is an Emmy-nominated television producer, host, and entertainment journalist who has spent more than two decades covering film, television, and the entertainment industry.
