Meet Bernardo Seixas, who’s developing a disaster preparedness and risk management scale in Athena Aktipis’ lab. His work explores the emotions—both positive and negative—that shape how we prepare for and respond to disasters, aiming to create a functional measure of preparedness that’s grounded in reality, not doomsday fantasies.

See him next week at the Zombie Apocalypse Medicine Meeting (for the second year in a row) and at many Apocalypse Roadshow events beyond!

Hey there Eureka Springs! Ready for a night of Zombie Comedy?

Award-winning comedian Shane Mauss (Conan, Netflix, HBO, Comedy Central) brings his hit touring show Stand-Up Science to Eureka Springs with a special Halloween Edition.

Get ready for a 90-minute experience that’s part stand-up comedy, part science panel, and a chance to ask experts your own questions.

This show will feature Eureka Springs own favorite spooky scientist, Coltan Scrivner, the executive director of the Zombie Crawl and Nightmare in the Ozarks Film Festival, and world’s leading expert in morbid curiosity. His new book, Morbidly Curious: A Scientist Explains Why We Can’t Look Away, dives deep into why we’re drawn to the dark side.

This show will also feature new local scientist, Professor, author and apocalypse expert, Athena Aktipis, a leader in cooperative science and surviving our wild times. Her latest book, A Field Guide to the Apocalypse: A Mostly Serious Guide to Surviving Our Wild Times, explores how adaptability, humor, and community help us face uncertain futures.

Join us Monday, October 21 at 6PM in the Basin Ballroom (Eureka Springs, AR) for Stand-Up Science: Apocalypse Edition — Zombie Edition!

👉 Tickets are LIVE now! Visit the link in our bio.

See you there, survivors? 🧠🧟‍♂️

Meet Baba Brinkman, our new roadie for the Welcome to the Apocalypse Roadshow. 🔥

Award-winning rapper, science communicator, and playwright, Baba is best known for his “Rap Guide” series—science-themed plays and albums that have toured the world and earned runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and off-Broadway. The New York Times calls him “Astonishing and brilliant.”

His guides span Evolution, Human Nature, Medicine, Religion, Climate Change, and Consciousness. He’s a Scotsman Fringe First Award winner for Exceptional New Writing, a two-time Drama Desk Award nominee, and a National Center for Science Education’s “Friend of Darwin Award” winner. You’ve likely seen him perform on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” or sharing stages with science luminaries like Stephen Hawking and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Beyond science rap, Baba pioneered “lit-hop”—literary hip-hop with rap adaptations of Beowulf, Gilgamesh, and Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. During the pandemic, he founded Event Rap Inc, the first rap creator marketplace connecting artists with custom commissions.

Now he’s bringing all that brilliance to the apocalypse. Baba recently premiered a brand new rap single at our Explora-Pocalypse event in Albuquerque—and it was everything we hoped for.

This year, Baba will be making an appearance at ZAMM. Don’t miss it.

Welcome to the team, Baba. 🎤

Meet the newest member of the Apocalypse Roadshow crew: Scout Mastick! 🚨

She’s Athena Aktipis’ newest grad student (and already crushing it). Scout will be running The Colony Game at our events — where we put human cooperation and survival instincts to the test.

Her research? 🔥 She studies how humans behave in disasters, using complex systems theory, agent-based modeling, and other tools to understand collective responses to catastrophe. In other words, she’s mapping how we survive together when everything falls apart.

Fun fact: Scout is also a fellow Reedie (Athena also did her undergrad there 🙌). After working in the real world for a while, she’s back in academia and rocking it.

Excited to have her on the team as we explore the science (and comedy, and music) of the apocalypse.

What do you do when disaster strikes? Work together to rebuild! Explore the science of thriving when the worst happens, from what to put in your go-bag to who’s on your survival team.

Join us for the Explora-pocalypse: Adult Night, at the Explora Science Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico! Featuring the Apocalypse Roadshow, a traveling r***e with science, comedy, role-playing, and music!

This special edition will also feature guest artist Baba Brinkman—a New York–based rap artist best known for his Rap Guide series of science-themed albums, TEDx Talks, and acclaimed off-Broadway productions—who will debut a brand-new music release.

We’re also excited to introduce Scout Mastick, the newest Apocalypse Roadshow presenter and member of Athena’s graduate research team. Scout will bring the ASU-founded survival board game to life, drawing on her research into human behavior during disasters.

Snacks by Three Sisters Kitchen. Beer and wine from Sheehan Winery.

Please keep in mind this is an 18+ event.

Paul Perreault returns to the Apocalypse Roadshow!

A rare kind of artist—one who shapes sound, story, and atmosphere with the same quiet mastery.

Founder of Planet Sandwich, original bassist for the award-winning Lucky Lenny, and an accomplished filmmaker and animator, Paul brings a deep creative current with him wherever he goes. His work hums beneath the surface—felt before it’s seen, remembered long after the lights go down.

He’s shared our stage before, from New Mexico to Arizona—and this weekend, we’re lucky to welcome him home again in Flagstaff. Keep an eye out for Blue, the impossibly beautiful instrument that seems almost too perfect for this world.

Athena Aktipis will chat apocalypses, survival, resilience and about how to survive and thrive in the apocalypse.

All of the music will be on theme!

Photo set from last year’s shindig. This one will be just as much fun, if not more.

🎻🚐 Meet Aislinn Conroy — daughter of a jazzman, disciple of dusty dance floors, and rhythm rider of the traditional music highway. From crawling through band rehearsals in Virginia to laying down clawhammer banjo lines under the Arizona pines, Aislinn carries the old sounds into new futures.

She writes, she rewrites, she lifts up voices still learning to sing. Aislinn’s heart beats in 4/4 time, but her mission is timeless: to bring more young people (especially women) into the world of bluegrass, old-time, and beyond.

Catch her with us on the Apocalypse Roadshow — where the end of the world still sounds like a very good jam. 🔥🪕
