Featured Artist from the Diaspric Deities Workshop, Loki-Anthony Honey ✨

“Anighi Watu”

This piece, Anighi Watu (or Heart Fire in Garifuna), is dedicated to the concept of the trickster. Anighi Watu represents the double-sided-ness of positive and negative and how they have historically been applied to BIPOC individuals without their consent: the inability to fall somewhere in the gray of morality. Anighi Watu can do great good at the same time that she can do great bad, but she is innately unable to do anything in the gray.

Loki-Anthony Honey is a q***r, disabled artist of Garifuna and Celtic descent who creates with the purpose of guiding people together. He believes that often humans categorize themselves into separation so heavily that they stop seeing the ways in which they lack difference. Loki-Anthony believes that art is the truest form of human connection. He feels that his purpose in making art is to share his experiences, both positive and negative, in order to represent the full extent of humanity.

the Shop artist highlight: Marlena Livingston ✨ ☀️🐍🐶💖🐕🌹🦎

Marlena Liivingston is an artist and maker working primarily with wool and found materias. She is also an experienced painter and ceramicist, art forms she learned and developed while earning her bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of New Mexico, and later through participation in community public art programs. Marlena worked as a public school art teacher intermittently since 2025, and now works as an elementary school librarian. In 2018, she gratuated with an MA in Sequential Design from the University of Brighton, in the United Kingdom, her work during this time culminated in a series of needle and wet-felted sculptures that explore the intersections of mental and pysical illness and the process of healing.

It was so great hearing from Artist in Residence, Marie Alarcón and Christina, Loki, Marisol and Lena, the artists who participated in her workshops and are featured in the exhibition.

Featured Artist from the Diasporic Deities Workshop, Christina Socorro ✨

“Baba Socorro’s Garments”

Christina Socorro Yovovich has been a writer since forever, and fiber artist since 2021. She’s a bipolar, fat, autistic Latina Montenegrin with PTSD and ADHD who isn’t afraid of a label and who likes to make trouble with her words and peace with her handcrafts. She grew up in Wisconsin, but has lived in New Mexico since 1998, almost the entirety of her adult life.

The tunic, cardigan, and shawl were all made by me between 2021-2026. While they are all things I made to wear myself, I also see them as garments Baba Socorro, the diasporic diety I envisioned as a part of the workshop with Marie, would happily wear as she sat upon the porch of her adobe house which roams New Mexico on its giant roadrunner legs. She dresses for herself and her standards and comfort.

“In Search of Camiyote Consuelo to ask for Safe Passage Across Borders”

Camiyote Consuelo is a three headed deity living at the borderlands of the spirit, physical, and dream realms. It has the power to move seamlessly through realms, shapeshift, and summon groups of species to provide safe crossing and passage through any borderland obstacle. Its favored and original form is that of a three headed coyote. Camiyote is a land steward devoted to the health and balance of the earth’s ecological ecosystems and migratory patterns. Their main motivation lies in a devotion to providing safe crossing and passage for genuine spirits, especially migratory species and species threatened by extinction. Every once in a while they will guide a human with a genuine heart to a safe space. However, this is rare since Camiyote actively opposes borders and those who establish barriers that create blockages for migratory movement (humans).
This exhibition follows a fictional story of a woman named Vera through a personal altar display with a collection of artifacts in search for a deity she encountered in her childhood,

In a moment of despair and hopelessness, Camiyote Consuelo appeared to Vera and guided her safely to a new home and family after becoming lost while crossing the Mexican/American Border. The memories of this deity consume Vera now in her old age, as she tries to piece together her past while attempting to call upon Camiyote for safe passage of immigrants at risk of being lost and harmed at the borderlands.

Marisol Driovínto is a mixed media chicana artist, primarily working in watercolor, digital illustration and printmaking based in Albuquerque, NM.

the Shop artist highlight: Julia Andreas ✨ Julia Andreas
Julia Andreas is a multimedia fiber artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico whose work explores how the world softens when we zoom in and out. She earned a BA in Biology from the University of New Mexico in 2020 and has exhibited in both solo and group shows across the state including Exhibit 208, is held in private collections in New Mexico, California, New York and Seattle, and is part of the permanent collection at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument in Nebraska, where she completed an artist residency. Julia currently serves as the art coordinator at Castle Coffee in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

the Shop artist highlight: Gael Luna ✨ Arte Gael Luna
Gael is a transgender immigrant artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working in digital large-scale prints and intallations. Originally from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, they migrated to the US at age seven. Luna earned a bacelor’s degree in Media Arts from Mexico Highlands Unversity in 2014. As a Seabury Fellow, they developed Joteria Undocumented, a community-engaged art project exhibited in New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. They have collaborated with local and national community organizations and contributed art pieces to the public art programs of the city of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
