HIGHLANDER (1986)
Jun 5
10:30pm only!
All Seats $10
Dir. Russell Mulcahy - 1986 - 110m - Valid for Punch Cards

A 40th Anniversary screening!

The original 80’s HIGHLANDER feature with that great Queen soundtrack!  When Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is slain in battle in the Scottish Highlands, his kinsfolk don’t mourn the tragedy of his death – they mourn the seeming witchcraft that’s brought him back to life. But MacLeod can’t die, and neither can Juan Ramírez (Sean Connery), who befriends Connor and shows him what it means to be immortal. Time dissolves, the centuries pass, and Connor and his fellow immortals are drawn to New York City, where one will be awarded the Prize while the rest lose their literal heads. This is the timeless tale that launched a film and TV franchise, beloved by millions of fans worldwide. This is HIGHLANDER!

“Russell Mulcahy’s Highlander is without a doubt one of the finest cult films of the 1980s. This 1986 film is a wonderful action-fantasy romp that pretty much works on every level.” - Niall Browne, Movies in Focus

“A truly heroic stomp through time and space.” - Matt Ford, BBC.com

DEEPFAKING SAM ALTMAN
Jun 2 thru 5

Dir. Adam Bhala Lough - 2026 - 90m - Valid for Punch Cards

The new funny & surprisingly moving doc/investigation into the ever encroaching world of AI!

When Los Angeles filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough fails to land an interview with the elusive Sam Altman, he travels to India to deepfake the tech CEO, only to create a glitchy LLM “Sam Bot” that moves into his home, befriends his son and begins co-directing the movie. As Sam Bot grows more lifelike, Adam is forced to decide whether to delete the AI he accidentally brought to life, and the film becomes a sharp, surprisingly moving exploration of how humans navigate the chaotic new world of artificial intelligence.

“A thought-provoking approach to the dilemmas of the new digital era.” - Fast Company

“A globe-trotting, thought-provoking, utterly surreal exploration.” - Rolling Stone

Will Ku outrun his history or will he learn to run in parallel with it to achieve his dreams?

LONELY ARE THE BRAVE (1962)
May 31 & Jun 1
Sun and Mon 3:00, 7:45pm
Dir. David Miller - 1962 - 107m - Valid for Punch Cards

As part of our Kirk Douglas Albuquerque double feature with Billy Wilder’s great ACE IN THE HOLE (1951)!

From David Miller, the outstanding director of Flying Tigers, Sudden Fear, Midnight Lace, Captain Newman, M.D. and Executive Action, comes this contemporary western based on a novel by Edward Abbey (Fire on the Mountain) and adapted for the screen by the great Dalton Trumbo (Papillon). Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas (The Vikings) ignites the screen in his personal favorite role as a cowboy on a collision course with the modern world in Lonely Are the Brave. After landing himself in jail trying to break out his friend, Jack Burns (Douglas) finds himself alone and on the run from the law. Leading the manhunt is Sheriff Morey Johnson (Walter Matthau, Charley Varrick), who must bring Burns to justice despite his own sympathy for the fugitive. Co-starring Gena Rowlands (Gloria), George Kennedy (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot) and Carroll O’Connor (Point Blank) and featuring top-notch cinematography by Philip H. Lathrop (Experiment in Terror) with a rousing score by Jerry Goldsmith (100 Rifles) - an unforgettable portrait of a lawless man defying life in an orderly world.

“Such a shocking beginning is the first of many attributes that place this film as the best - and most atypical - western in which Jerry Goldsmith was involved throughout his professional career.” - Sergio Benítez, Espinof

As part of our Kirk Douglas Albuquerque double feature with the marvelous LONELY ARE THE BRAVE!

DOUBLE FEATURED WITH THE EXCELLENT LONELY ARE THE BRAVE (1962) - SEE ONE OR BOTH FOR THE SAME PRICE, A 2-FOR-1 SPECIAL!

One of the most scathing indictments of American culture ever produced by a Hollywood filmmaker. Kirk Douglas gives the fiercest performance of his career as Chuck Tatum, an amoral newspaper reporter who washes up in dead-end Albuquerque, happens upon the scoop of a lifetime, and will do anything to keep getting the lurid headlines. Wilder’s follow-up to Sunset Boulevard is an even darker vision, a no-holds-barred exposé of the American media’s appetite for sensation that has gotten only more relevant with time.

“More impressive even than in Sunset Boulevard, and the result is perhaps [Billy Wilder’s] most remarkable film.” - Penelope Houston, Sight & Sound

“The picture is fascinating — all one hour and 52 minutes of it. It’s  like a book that shocks you, yet you cannot bear to put it down.” - Marjory Adams, Boston Globe

Dir. Valerie Faris & Jonathan Dayton - 2006 - 101m - Not Valid for Punch Cards

A 20th Anniversary special screening presented by local boutique store YARNING!

“Join Yarning as we host another afternoon filled with community, crafting, and cinema!

The Hoover family — a man (Greg Kinnear), his wife (Toni Collette), an uncle (Steve Carell), a brother (Paul Dano) and a grandfather (Alan Arkin) — puts the fun back in dysfunctional by piling into a VW bus and heading to California to support a daughter (Abigail Breslin) in her bid to win the Little Miss Sunshine Contest. The sanity of everyone involved is stretched to the limit as the group’s quirks cause epic problems as they travel along their interstate route.

*The lights will be left on low in over to stitch, but please feel free to bring your neck lights for added visibility.” - Laura Long
