The summer Sandia Soundscapes event at FUSION ABQ | The Cell on August 15 in Albuquerque features a pair of acts that will be projecting video images in real time alongside performing their music. The opening act is Morgan Barnard, who works primarily in light-based media such as projection, screens and lights, navigating the links between cinema, generative media, interactivity and data visualization. His approach to music blends ambient texture, rhythmic experimentation, and cinematic sound design. His work often connects sound with light, movement, and dynamic visual environments, treating music as both an emotional space and a structural force.

The third Sandia Soundscapes on August 15 at FUSION ABQ's The Cell will be a feast for the eyes as well as for the ears! It will be headlined by Siphonophores, a project based on improvisation featuring Jesse Tatum on flute, Peter Gilbert on electronics, and Nick Tauro Jr. with projected images. In the natural world, siphonophores are known as highly polymorphic and complex organisms, blurring the line between working individually and as a colony. As a human performance ensemble, Siphonophores believe in live performance and the creative immediacy of the moment.

This Saturday evening at the Currents New Media Festival, you’ll get to preview some of the artists appearing at Sandia Soundscapes this year! On October 3, Trey Gunn and David Forlano will play a special ambient/downtempo set, and on August 15, we’ll get to hear hear Morgan Barnard’s music as well as see his wonderful visuals! We'd like to thank everyone who came out last night to see Michael Stearns Music play. It was a full house, and an absolutely magical performance by Michael, ranging from delicate to thundering passages (in quad!).

All of the positive comments were also greatly appreciated: These show require a lot of work to put on, and hearing that others appreciated our work and vision with the different way we do things (video support, interviewing the artist as part of the show, etc.).
