Once again, the mighty Titanic has sunk beneath the surface—only this time, into the playa of Black Rock City.

Created by Titanic’s End, this monumental wooden ship was split in two and built to appear as though it were sinking into the playa. Spanning roughly 120 feet and rising more than 30 feet above the desert floor, the climbable structure transformed into an amphitheater where Burners could gather, explore, and take in the sunset.

The piece was designed to explore humanity’s faith in technology and the consequences of our ever-growing extraction of resources from the planet. By recreating one of history’s most iconic symbols of technological ambition (and allowing it to quite literally sink into the earth) Titanic’s End asks a bigger question: can we find a sustainable balance with the planet, or are we repeating history?

We’re honored to have helped bring this massive piece of art and engineering to the playa. 🚢🔥

From the shores of Indonesia to the dust of Black Rock City, Behind Closed Eyes by Spencer Hansen made the incredible journey to !

Crouched in the dust with its hands covering its face, this 16-foot sculpture feels otherworldly and slightly unsettling, inviting viewers into a space of quiet, presence, and introspection. Behind Closed Eyes is hand-carved from reclaimed Indonesian teak salvaged from retired fishing vessels, and the sculpture carries the history of its materials into a new life.

Created over 18 months with Hansen’s longtime team of Indonesian artists, the piece combines time-honored craftsmanship with innovative fabrication processes. With over 95% repurposed materials, Behind Closed Eyes transforms reclaimed wood into a tactile, glowing sanctuary in the desert.

We’re proud to have helped bring this incredible work to life as an official Black Rock City 2026 Honorarium Grant recipient!
