“Tyger Tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night”….so begins a famous poem penned in 1794 by William Blake. Reminded of this poem, carousel carvers named this magnificent jungle animal “Blake.”

Blake wears no saddle or bridle, appropriate for a wild Bengal tiger.

Hidden in the stripes toward his flank on the romance side, are the names of the sponsors’ grandchildren, Andrew and Caitlin.

He is a jumper animal located on the inside row of the carousel.

Albany has a jokester creating AI pictures of a horse being towed away from the Carousel; we figured this was the perfect opportunity to share a little behind-the-scenes secret!

Our hand-carved, beautifully painted carousel animals really do leave the building one time!

After all the carving and painting is complete, and our animals are just days away from joining their friends on the Carousel, they take a little road trip on a trailer, pulled by a perfectly ordinary truck, to receive their final automotive clear coat.

This protective clear coat helps preserve the incredible artistry and craftsmanship of each animal so that generations of riders can enjoy them for years to come.

So, stay tuned! You just might spot one of our beautiful animals traveling down the road someday. We have two more animals scheduled to join the Carousel by the end of this year!

The Albany Carousel was built on generosity.

Our founder, Wendy Kirbey, shares how donors helped turn a big dream into the carousel we enjoy today. But the story isn't finished.

Your support helps keep the carousel running and creates a place where families can make memories for years to come.

If the Albany Carousel means something to you, consider making a donation and becoming part of its story.

The Band Organ was sponsored by Doug and Karen Engel to honor their longtime friends, Dale Matheny and George Thomas. They shared a love of music and carnival glass.

Many of the organ’s designs were inspired by carnival glass Doug and Karen have collected since the 1970s. Look closely and you’ll see ferns, peacocks, roses, poppies, and other special details.

The front also features a painting of the Cathey House, Doug and Karen’s historic Albany home. The angel brooch was inspired by a pin Karen loved to wear.

Thanks to their generosity and love of music, visitors can enjoy the Band Organ for years to come.
