If anyone has any doubts about what our project accomplished, this picture says it all. There used to be a drop of several inches from that cement sidewalk down to the mulch. This photo brings tears to our eyes, especially those of us whose kids were relegated to the sidewalk during recess. Thank you donors, builders, and volunteers for creating access for this child from Alexander Local Schools.

The Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities was such an important partner on this project, from our early conversations with Superintendent Kevin Davis and A***n Smedley and their input on what an inclusive playground needs. The ACBDD serves kids from all districts of Athens County, including Alexander Local Schools. Some kids start at their Beacon School and eventually enroll at Alexander or sometimes they start at Alexander and eventually go to Beacon. Resources and ideas are shared. We are incredibly thankful for this organization and for the funds they allocated toward our project, demonstrating their commitment to all kids in all districts they serve. Thank you!

We owe a big thank you to all the volunteers who made our Sunday celebration a success. Thank you to Athens County Foundation and Nationwide Children's Athens Close to Home for sponsoring the event. We were so grateful to have DJ Rockin Reggie Robinson there with music. The Alexander Marching Band did an amazing job at kicking off the event. Thank you to Barbara North-Moss and Cyerra Wollett for your wonderful face painting prowess. A big shout out to the Alexander Honors Society and their advisor Margot Tyler and the Alexander FFA and their advisor Bryan Ford for helping us set up and tear down the event. Various groups showed up with educational materials from the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Learning Aid Ohio, the Athens City Commission on Disabilities and SOCIL-Ohio. And to all the parents and children and teachers and administrators from Alexander Local Schools who took on a volunteer role that day but are too numerous to name: We appreciate you all!

Despite the stormy weekend, we were still able to celebrate our community and everything they did for this project! We hope to make a slideshow of the event soon.
