Violas 'R' Us

Violas 'R' Us I'm a goofball violist who teaches elementary and intermediate viola lessons in the greater Capital District area. I teach online, so kiddos can keep learning!

I'm an alumna of ESYO, and survived master classes before turning to academics in college.

Hey, Facebook Land! I've been an absentee admin due to being an essential employee. Hope everyone is well!

Eek! I forgot to talk about rosin. My bow was having a hard time getting consistent sound from Anastasia, now I know why 😄

It's OK to mess up- watch me demonstrate! Anastasia stayed in tune, holy cow. Shout-out to Brian about halfway through.

Got the shoulder rest, and it fits! Anastasia is staying in tune for about 15 minutes at a time, which is pretty good for not having been used for practice in a bit (that will happen when you're 115 years old). I figured out the intro to "The Swan" but won't play it in old lady pajamas. At least let me find some yoga pants... ☮️

In high school, both my best friend and I had to choose one: car or viola?

We were both in ESYO, which didn't make things easy. Thus, I got my license and worked like mad until I could afford a (very) used car. I drove my mom's in the meantime.

Just like with athletic programs, parents and families of music students truly make sacrifices to help their children achieve success. I'll be the first to say both of us were extremely privileged, too.

I enjoyed independence in my glorious 1986 Ford Ta**us GL, in which I drove said bff everywhere. I had to work my butt off to buy it, though, and that reminded me of why it was important to treat it with respect.

Same goes for Anastasia. I knew there was no way I could save up for a viola, but a used car was feasible. Long story short, I owe my parents everything. I also had to work hard.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

What do y'all want to see in a video? I'd love feedback, and yes, I'm trying to find my second shoulder rest and failing. I'm fine without makeup, and still learning how to use my iPhone 11's camera.

No idea too silly. Don't make me play "Yellow Submarine" on the viola. ;)

Please be aware that "f-holes" are the two open spaces on the front of the viola. Nobody's swearing! 😉
