Come, my friends, sit and rest.
I know... I can tell your heart is heavy.
It has been a difficult week... Yes, the US govt. is both rescinding habitat protection from the Endangered Species Act, as well as shrinking Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase Escalante.
I know it makes one feel a bit lost, helpless and tired. Sit by me for a spell, have some tea and I will tell you what I know as well, and that is this- we must persist. Gently at times, boldly at times, we can act with small, invisible actions, and with grand attention and lofty voices. In fact, we need toβ All of us.
I know, it is strange times, and stranger yet to be comforted by a Gnome, but open your ear to this and accept not just the absurdity of the world, but also its depth and meaning... After all, Gnomes are brilliant at holding together the unseen and the and plainly observed...the mystery and the evidence, we see both the constellations and the stars.
You see, although the Gnomean path often shines a light on joy, nonsense and silliness, it is also lit by one's own lantern that glows brighter with personal and spiritual growth to find what's true and right.
Gnomes are also intrinsically connected to nature. Hot and cold, steep and deep, spring blooms and decaying mushroomsβthe environments that make up the wild places are as integral for us to protect as they are to explore. That is our power.
Our Gardens are as free as the wind, but require dedication and care; they are both tended by human hands and shaped by the forces of nature, blooming with the very evidence that we are capable of working with the land, and not against it.
That is our proof.
Destroying national protected lands, habitats and discarding the custodianship of the natural wonders we have been so lucky to witness and behold is directly opposed to the goal of living in harmony with the earth, respecting balance and doing no harm.
That is where paths diverge in the wood.
Opening once protected lands to drilling, mining and development is harmful to all of us... animals, plants, ecosystems, symbiotic and biological relationships, the soil health, the food chain, the oceans and seas, the water cycle, eventually and quickly this contributes to climate collapse--systemic collapse. It is not just the land which will be scarred, but all of our hearts as we lose pieces of what has always made our world so magically fabulous in the first place.
Being a Gnomean Minister does not make me exempt from this discussion, it makes me lean into it. My path is brightened through service to all things living and to our earth, our collective home. This is my realm.
Being a spiritual leader does not bind me to one topic, nor does it negate my ability to be political. It helps validate to myself and others that everything is political. From the food on our plates to the felt of my hat, from penguins to poppies, from human rights to ancient history, and all the rest. We are connected in every single way, if you follow the right paths.
It is disheartening to witness such atrocities being waged in the name of business, money and industry. I understand many of you will be feeling the same. Sigh...hehβ It is times like these I miss my old friend, the Lorax. (He spoke for the trees, for the trees have no tongue.)
If he were here today, I know he would tell us not to despair, and that there are a few seeds left in us, precious and potent, and within seeds there may be found hope...
But he left us with that far away hope, just a far away thought.
A thought about something that somebody ought.
He said, "Unless....
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better, it's not."
I will never forget his words.
If we are to live like Gnomes, then it is a duty to be of service to each other and to the Earth. I continue to hold true, with my boots in the dirt and hope in my heart, with a laugh and a tear, I will not give up trying and I will never give up.
As another famous and humble friend of mine also said, "there's some good left in this world... and it's worth fighting for."
Join me, then, in caring, a whole awful lot.
Join with others and give it a thought.
This world is worth fighting for.
Cheers, to all! Go forth and plant your seeds of change and hope, boldly claim for the future and protect for more than 7 generations where the wild things are!
**GNOME BLESSINGS**
