Weekly garden update!

🌿 What’s ready to harvest/close to harvest: Lavender, spearmint, yarrow flower, garlic scapes
🍅 What’s fruiting: Tigerella tomatoes
🌼 What’s flowering: Cucumbers, watermelon, peppers
🌱 What’s still little but doing their best: Beans, cutting flowers, pumpkins, squash, butterfly pea flower, salad greens
😡 What’s on my 💩 list: Rose chafers. They’re out in droves and they’re invasive—and nothing eats them.
📸 Bonus shot: I can’t take credit for the daisies, but it’s nice to see them again!

Looking forward to some solstice herb harvests and farm stand stops this weekend, then blending teas for the upcoming market. ☀️

A sunrise like that AND a speckled egg? What a day! 😍

Working on a project for a recent grad while I wait for the plants to do their thing!

Things are finally taking off in the garden thanks to these big ol’ storms. Even the cucumbers are looking better, and I’ve had nearly 100% germination rates with the beans and pumpkins. I am so grateful!

Market prep continues (three weeks—can you believe it?!) in the form of steeping herbal oils for balms and salves, finishing up some quick knits, and preparing to harvest some tea herbs once it’s dry enough to do so!

Coming soon to a market and CSA box near you: Garlic scapes! 🧄 I can’t believe it’s this time of year again. These are like the gold of the garden, and one of my first big harvests, which makes them even more wonderful.

Beans and pumpkins are poppin’ though the soil, and the tomatoes get more lush every day. Some things are struggling (😒 calendula and cucumbers) but each trip down to the garden is exciting!

Now to mix up some batches of hot pepper/garlic pest spray, and nettle tea fertilizer to keep everyone healthy until harvest.

A really cool experience while out planting yesterday: The biggest, loudest flock of Canada geese I’ve ever seen in more than two decades in northern Michigan!

Don’t mind my noisy garden helper in the background. 😂

It’s PLANTING DAY! 🎉 🪏👩🏼‍🌾 That long, long winter was worth the wait. Dozens of tomatoes in the ground, along with lots of peppers, cucumbers, watermelons, sunflowers, and more! I still have a few more things to direct sow as the soil warms up a bit, but today was a significant dent in the to-do list.

My seed rack is empty and my heart is full, full, full. ❤️

(P.S. who knew amaranth seeds were so pretty?!)

Some news. If you’re a farm stand regular, or were hoping to stop by this summer, please read. ➡️ And if you’re interested in a produce box, let me know!

This was a hard call to make, but it’s the right one for us. Thank you for understanding!

Things are ramping up, inside and out! 💥

For the last couple weeks, I’ve been prepping the back half of the garden for its first real planting in three summers, with the help of my broadfork and a small cultivator. This week, I’m hardening off both seedlings and chicks, and getting ready to integrate my flock. And in about six weeks, we’ll have a few more egg layers around here! Today, I started the last of my seeds (at least until the succession crops roll in 😅).
