Today, we took our nature investigation a step further by painting what we saw. The children used their observations from our nature walk to recreate the colors, shapes, and details that caught their attention.

Through careful looking, reflection, and creative expression, the children turned their observations into their own interpretations of the world around them. 🌱🖌️

We looked. We noticed. We wondered. We painted what we saw. 💚

Learning looks different in our program.

🌿Nature Walk Investigation: Seeing the World Through Our Eyes 🌿

Today, our little explorers took their learning outdoors for a nature walk investigation focused on our sense of sight! 🌱

With magnifying glasses, mirrors, clipboards, and curious minds, the children slowed down to look closely at the world around them. They explored leaves, rocks, flowers, insects, trees, shadows, and other natural treasures.

Our invitation to investigate was simple:

“What can your eyes help you discover?”

As they explored, we encouraged the children to wonder, observe, document, and share their discoveries.

🌿 What looks different up close?
👀 How does seeing help you learn about this object?

This experience reminds us that learning doesn’t always happen at a table. Sometimes, it happens when we slow down, look closely, ask questions, and allow children’s natural curiosity to lead the way.

We came back and talked about what we discovered.

In Reggio Emilia-inspired learning, the environment is the third teacher—and today, nature had so much to say. 🌎✨

When you walk into my program for the first time you may see things are different. Thoughts that may run across your mind.

“ This place is a mess”
“Why would she let them do that”
“They are mixing items from one area to another”
“Do they even clean up”

Let me answer that for you.

I don’t see a mess, I see children exploring cause and effect, social interaction, problem solving, math, creativity, self expression, inquiry and experimentation, helping others , and so much more.

Yes they can move things from one place to another because would if I am using my imagination and I want to draw what I see. Then I’ll need paper and a pencil. Would if my baby is crying in the dramatic play area and needs a bottle , but there is no bottle. A block can be a bottle. The imagination and learning at state of the arts is endless.

So stop and look at the bigger picture before you say it’s a mess.
