Public Service Announcement to My Loyal Supporters
I would like to take a moment to address a situation that came to my attention last night.
Although I am not a member of a particular local Facebook group, I was made aware of, and provided with, copies of a conversation in which I was publicly mentioned and personally criticized.
For clarification: the comments made were not in reference to my most recent business, 1090 Axe House, located at the mall.
Rather, they were directed toward my prior venture, Alamo Funatics, which operated on Main Street. I want to assure my supporters that the statements made were inaccurate; and he misrepresented the facts, and presented a distorted view of both my character and my efforts as a business owner in this community. ((He has DELETED His Comments)) but not before the bitterness and damage was done to me personally.
The comments were not only disappointing — they were disheartening and caused me considerable personal consternation and frustration. These kinds of personal & professional attacks rob me of my peace, joy, and serenity. It puts me in self-defense mode, tempting me to justify myself and disprove the falsehoods.
However, I recognize that I owe no one an explanation and am not obligated to defend my personal or business matters to anyone.
The burden rests solely on the individual making public accusations to ensure that any statements made are truthful, accurate, and substantiated — which, in this case, they were not.
While I understand that being a business owner may invite scrutiny, it is never easy to see one's private affairs discussed online without context or accuracy or personal knowlege - it frustrates me to have to be told by others that i’m being immorally attacked. It is deeply troubling to endure false and misleading information being spread in ways that can cause lasting damage to both my personal and professional reputation.
It is disheartening that some people fail to recognize the significant emotional toll that unfounded and misleading comments can cause. The emotional toll of false and misleading remarks is very real — it strips away joy, undermines confidence, and creates deep frustration and unnecessary emotional distress/stress!
Though the road ahead is challenging, I will strive to remain grounded in truth, dignity, professionalism, and grace, doing my best to navigate adversity with strength and resilience in response to the recent unfounded remarks.
I want the Community of Alamogordo to know that following the loss of my husband in 2019, I dedicated myself to creating a unique, family-friendly entertainment facility for our community — which included axe throwing, a smash house, mini golf, paint rooms, and more. My goal was always to create a positive, affordable environment for local families and youth, offering healthy, fun alternatives to the streets.
Despite my best efforts and significant personal investment, my endeavors did not achieve the success I had envisioned. The first attempt faced serious challenges, including the impact of COVID-19, internal setbacks, and a landlord-tenant dispute that ultimately resulted in my eviction — though the circumstances surrounding that situation have been misrepresented and greatly exaggerated.
The closure of my second business was influenced by a combination of factors, including limited community participation, a less visible location, financial strain, and personal circumstances. Together, these challenges contributed to the difficult but necessary decision to pause my efforts for now. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful that, in time, new opportunities may arise.
The challenges I have faced over the last 6 years are all a part of my story — but they are mine to share, not others to tell. I personally have chosen to move forward with forgiveness and peace, rather than bitterness. Past business dealings, including those involving my former landlords, have been or are being resolved privately, and I respectfully decline to entertain any public discussion or speculation regarding those matters.
As part of this announcement, I would like once again to clarify that the information recently shared online regarding my previous business affair with Alamo Funatics is inaccurate, and I reserve the right to protect my privacy and I will be taking the appropriate action to address any violations.
In Regards to the Future of 1090 Axe House: At this time, I have not made a final decision about whether I will attempt to reopen. I have important personal matters to address first — most notably an upcoming knee surgery, with a recovery period extending into the late fall. If I do reopen, it will likely not occur until sometime in 2026. However: Once I have made the determination to re-open or to permanently close I will update my facebook and web page accordingly.
In closing, I want to sincerely thank all who have supported me over the years. Your support, encouragement and belief in my vision have meant more to me than words can express.
With appreciation and continued respect,
May God Bless all of you, — Shalom,
Deborah Cobb
