Rainbow Gallery, who since 2024 has been producing Kreinik threads, is phasing out putting the threads on spools and will only be putting them on cards. We have a large number of colors/sizes on backorder and have been informed that those will come on cards when available, vs. spools. It is however, still taking months to get most colors/sizes so plan well ahead of your project, or consider Au ver a Soie metallic threads if a color is available in that line.

AVAS has been making metallic threads since before Kreinik existed so they have an extensive history of making metallized threads. If you look on our AVAS Metallic order page we list substitutes for colors where they are known. Assuming you have not stitched with a specific color/size ordering an AVAS color will come much faster. And the thread is smoother and less springy.

Purveyor of fine needlework supplies. Providing quality products and service to the discriminating needleworker.

For those of you who love stitching with Gumnuts threads, we have been informed that the dyer in Australia is retiring and the company closing. We are sad to see her threads become unavailable but wish her the best in retirement.

We carry the Stars line of Gumnuts so if you need anything from that silk line, order ASAP and if we are low on inventory we'll see if we can get more from our US distributor. We do know they are out of colors 408 and 990 in Stars, although we still have a few left.

Update 12/16: We have filled our pre-order list for Queen of Freedom and Lady of the Flag. If you want to be on the waiting list in case anyone cancels, send us an e-mail.

We are taking orders for the metallics that are needed for both designs. Lady of the Flag uses Kreinik #4 002HL (2) & 025; we can sub those with AVAS Metallic #4 030 (2) & 015. Queen of Freedom uses Kreinik #4 002J (2) and 102C. We have them on order but as with all things Kreinik, it takes time. So those threads are unlikely to be available at the same time as the chart - but will come later. Contact us if your shop isn't ordering the metallics.

Two of the hugely popular 4th of July charts from Mirabilia are being reprinted as limited edition charts. We were able to pre-order 25 of each design and they will ship to us January 2026. You can find each of them along with the fabric options, embellishment pack in our online catalog. When ordering the chart we've given you the option of including the metallic threads each one needs.

We don't charge for orders until we ship them, and we do recommend you order ASAP to ensure you get a copy. Wichelt, who is doing the reprint for Mirabilia, has limited all shops to 25 of each design and we know it's likely to sell out fast for all of us.

Zweigart has introduced Lugana 36 count (aka Milana) in both Antique White and White. These fabrics are more like the other counts of Lugana in texture and drape than Modena, which is their other 36 count evenweave.

Modena is made from a thinner base thread so is a lighter weight fabric. Both Modena and Milana are excellent for stitching and have a fiber content of 52% cotton/48% rayon.

If you love stitching on Lugana and are looking for a 36 count, try the new Milana.

I'm happy to offer the printed charts for my friend Katie Strachan's Britomart Sampler, which she announced this morning. Having seen the finished sampler in person I can tell you this is a truly lovely project. The sheen in the threads comes from using Soie de Paris and Soie Gobelins, both of which are filament silk threads.

You can purchase the printed chart from us and the full kit, class or PDF chart from Katie's web shop. We also sell all of the threads and the fabric used in the project if you want to kit it up as you go.

For a full description of this amazing project, visit Katie's Flosstube channel to see her video on it.

In addition to the Della Q Maker's Train Case, we have also brought in their Maker's Hat Box. With more room for projects, this case can hold a 10" round or 8.5" square round embroidery hoop along with your fabric, threads, etc. In addition to the built in handle it comes with a shoulder strap for carrying with other items in tow.

I've shown the Plum color we ordered below with one of my sampler projects on my 8.5" Hardwicke Manor Square round hoop and some of my Soie 100/3. I made a working copy of my chart so it would fold up easily into the case.

The hat box comes with compartments in the lid for the included scissors, large tapestry needles and measuring tape. You can add your other tools in the elastic section or the fabric pocket at the back of the base section.

When standing the hat box rests on 4 metal feet to keep it stable and a bit off the ground.

You can order these through our online catalog. We currently have the Plum color in stock but will order any of the other 4 colors for you - Indigo, Maroon, Sage and Teal.

We've been looking for travel cases that could be used for needlework, either for classes or travel and have decided to bring in Della Q's Maker Train Case. These are made from faux leather and fabric with high quality construction. Originally designed with knitters in mind, it is easily adaptable for needlework. It comes with both handles and a shoulder strap.

The tray fits all manner of tools and the inside lid has metal under the lining so magnets can be used to hold scissors, needles, minders and other tools.

The tray and the main compartment can hold a 5in wood hoop along with a folded or small chart, fabric and threads.

Colors shown here are Teal and Plum. It also comes in Maroon, Sage, Indigo and Orange. We currently carry all but the Orange in the shop. You can order online or by giving us a call.

We have starting adding Lecien's (Japan) Cosmo Embroidery thread to our thread inventory at the shop. Given we can no longer get Anchor floss in the US I had been considering what to add as an alternative solid cotton floss. I like the depth of shades in the Cosmo line and since they first came on the market a few years ago, they have increased the number of colors to 500.

I'm starting with the colors that Jody at Satsuma Street uses in several of her designs and eventually we'll add them all to our inventory. Making space for them while we pare down the Anchor colors will take some time.

If you wish to order some I have added all of the colors to our online catalog. But if you're looking for Cosmo floss for say Satsuma Street Funky Chickens or Groovy Chicks we should be getting those colors shortly.

If you wondering how the newly imposed tariffs will affect us (and most LNSs) a huge amount of what we sell is not manufactured in the US.

- Zweigart is German company and most of those who hand-dye fabrics use it as the base. Wichelt's fabrics also come from an EU country. The fabrics under the Legacy name are mostly from EU mills.
- Au ver a Soie and DMC are based in France so would be under EU import tariffs. Appletons is made in the UK. NPI silk is from China. Painters Threads are from the EU. Many of the hand-dyers used threads from mills in Europe or Japan so their base material will be affected. Kreinik and Rainbow Gallery are, in many cases, made in the US but some of the base component threads come from the EU or Japan.
- accessories like needles (EU, Mexico, Japan, Asia), hoops (EU, China) and stretcher bars are mostly made overseas. Evertite bars are made in the US but as they have had trouble keeping up with demand, their limited availability won't impact this much. The most common stretcher bars are F.A. Edmunds, which are made in China.
- K's Creations & Needlework System 4 stands and frames are made in the US as are RolaFrame scroll frames. If there are components in them from outside the US it would expect it to make a relatively small dent in the overall cost.
- Scissors are mostly manufactured in Europe and parts of Asia, only a small number in the US.
- Most lighting is manufactured in China, although it may be designed in the US or Europe.
- hand-painted needlepoint canvases are typically painted on Zweigart canvas so will be affected in 2 ways. The first is that it uses an EU product for the base, the second is that at least one of the painting services isn't in the US so what they ship would be subject to a tariff anyway. Would a painted canvas get listed as country of origin being the EU because of the base or the country it's painted in? I'm sure they are working on how the handle this mix, which isn't uncommon.
- Books - in the past printed material like books was usually exempt from tariffs but with the base tariff on almost all goods from most countries it's not clear if that exemption will continue.
- charts - we're assuming charts will be impacted by the tariff for those designers outside of the US since we've not seen anything indicating an exemption.

We have started to receive notices from suppliers about price increases due to the tariffs and those will start to take affect within the next few weeks for some. For others they will happen after May as they have shipments in transit now. And for some who have deeper inventory, it will be longer before we see price increases. And they won't be across the board, that will most likely be item/color specific. So for example if we get a shipment of hand-dyed fabric from overseas, it would effect that particular shipment and not the things we still have in stock. For the distributors that means if they are getting a shipment of Zweigart fabric, it would apply to the counts/colors in that shipment vs. what's already in their warehouse.

I read on Reuters that "A U.S. Customs and Border Protection bulletin provided a 51-day grace period for cargoes loaded or in transit to the U.S. before 12:01 a.m. ET Saturday April 5th. These cargoes need to arrive by May 27 to avoid the 10% duty." So there is some grace period for shipments in transit before the tariff took effect.

The US importer is responsible for paying the tariff, but where that tariff is collected depends on how it's sent. If it's sent with the Duty (Tariff) prepaid (DDP) by the seller the importer still gets charged for it by the seller, but it doesn't get stuck in customs awaiting payment. If it's sent with the Duty unpaid (DAP), then it's collected in the US usually before delivery. That too depends on how it's sent - UPS, FedEx and DHL for example have their own customs brokerage so they would be the ones to collect it either before or after delivery. For the USPS typically they would collect it at the time of delivery but given their existing workload I don't see how this is going to go smoothly if they have to collect it. For our US distributors/suppliers they will be paying the tariff and then may or may not pass along that increase depending on how they are handling this. For the shop itself, shipments I receive are typically not sent with Duty pre-paid so we will pay that at the time we receive the shipment. In the end the importer pays whether it's collected before shipment or upon receipt.

If the value of the shipment is under the current $800 threshold it should come in without a duty/tariff attached to it. That will go away May 2nd for shipments from China and Hong Kong. It's not clear if the threshold will stay in place for Canada and Mexico, which had been terminated in February and then paused indefinitely.

We will notify customers of price increases on orders as we get that information. Given it's a daily changing topic, the unpredictability makes this even harder to plan for. But we're assuming that the tariffs won't be lifted any time soon and that much of what we carry will begin to be affected in the next several weeks, although hopefully just a trickle at first. Some vendors have indicated that they will note a separate tariff line item so that it's clear what the price change is coming from when it hits.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we, and our suppliers, grapple with this.
