We love the flute, and here are 5 minutes of more reasons why.

Among our fave flutists: George Pope, who serves on Tuesday Musical's board, and Marina Piccinini and Sir James Galway, who have performed on our stage at E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron.

It’s an instrument based on the most fundamental sign of life: breath. Listen to the best music ever written for it.

Cantus - Simple Gifts

Today and every day, we are thankful for you.

Last on our season in 2013, Cantus shares the Shaker song that's both an instruction for dancing as well as an instruction for life.

’Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free
’Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
’Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come ’round right.

Happy Thanksgiving, newsletter subscribers! Enjoy this holiday treat from the Choral Stream, a stunning performance of "Simple Gifts," by Cantus.

Anthony McGill and Pacifica Quartet are coming in May for our Akron Concert Series. Watch for details soon about the full season that starts in February (with strict health protocols and ticket guarantees).

“I think about my history as a young Black boy playing clarinet on the South Side of Chicago and now this life in New York — how can I help the next generation of young musicians succeed, too? Maybe some kid from Queens or the Bronx, where I live, will see me or hear me play. It gives me such pride to think what they may think is impossible is actually very possible.” — Anthony McGill

Sing to your dishwasher, and it just might sing back: The secret of appliance jingles | Your Classical | YourClassical

Do any of your appliances play classical music?

According to this, LG washing machines use a jingle similar to the English folk tune "The Lincolnshire Poacher," which was set for voice and piano by composer Benjamin Britten.

Why does your dishwasher play you a song, and why does your washing machine play Schubert? There's more than meets the eye when it comes to jingles played by your appliances.
