Symphony’s Classic Series was established in the organization’s first season (1952-1953) to provide concerts performed by professional musicians of the highest caliber. Guest conductors and soloists of regional and national stature have been an integral part of the Classic Series since its onset, and remain a high priority for the Symphony.

We've wrapped up another year of Concerts for Kids, and we wanted to take a moment and thank the Barberton Community Foundation for supporting our trip back out to the Lake Anna YMCA! Some of our youngest concertgoers this year got to experience the power (and fun) of music up close and personal, with support from none other than Holly Barkdoll from narrating Peter and the Wolf. We're already thinking ahead to what next year's family concert experience could look like, and we can't wait to be back in the community this summer!

That's a wrap on our 2025-2026 season! We promised all year that Carmina Burana would be the ultimate season finale, but after Saturday, we may have undersold it. Our incredible powerhouse soloists, the full force of the Akron Symphony Chorus, and the world class musicians of the A*O combined for a truly once-in-a-lifetime performance.

A special thank you to everyone that showed up to E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron to experience the fireworks on stage. Saturday marked our highest attended classic series concert in ten years, and we're grateful so many of you chose to share it with us.

We'll be back at E.J. Thomas Hall in October for our opening night of the wildly colorful Symphonie Fantastique, paired with the William Tell Overture and Studio Ghibli/Hisashi's Howl's Moving Castle. Season and flex subscriptions are on sale NOW! Visit akronsymphony.org for more information.

Behind the Rehearsals Carmina Burana: Part 2

We joined forces with our vocal soloists and the Akron Symphony Chorus to start work on Orff's sensationally sultry and explosive Carmina Burana. It's the perfect finale, with O Fortuna blasting through the hall. We're expecting one of our biggest attendances in the last decade, so if you're looking for specific seats we don't recommend waiting any longer.

Visit akronsymphony.org (through 3PM tomorrow) or
Call 330.535.8131 (through 3PM today) or

Behind the Rehearsals Carmina Burana: Part 1

We open our finale on Saturday with Ravel's Bolero... an aggressively straight forward but incredibly tricky piece that has been beloved for nearly a century. This work passes the baton around the orchestra from section to section in a revolving cycle, folding in new combinations and harmonies along the way. The snare drum is actually still smoldering from almost 350 consecutive measures of steady playing.

Tickets are still available, and going fast! We're planning on a packed hall and we hope to see you there. Tickets available at akronsymphony.org or by calling 330.535.8131

Our 2026 Sit In With The Symphony took place last evening on stage at E.J. Thomas Hall, and for the second year in a row we left with ear to ear grins from all the fun that was had. It was clear right off the bat... this wasn't everyone's first Rodeo (Copland pun). Community musicians sat alongside our A*O members and tackled works like Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King, and even breaking out Indiana Jones via John Williams!

Thanks to everyone that made the evening so special, and we're already looking at ways to make 2027 even better.
